Hey,
Finally got around to installing these items :
PG ZX450
Hat L1v2's
Dyn MW152's

Got it all hooked up today and noticed in some prelim listening that one side sounded louder. The input to the amp is definitely the same on both the left and right channel however the amp is outputting double the ac voltage to the left rear channel vs the right rear channel. I havnt tested the front channels yet.

I have tried swapping the woofers from left to right, the same output issue persisted in that side.

Hence im thinking it must be the amp. Where should I start looking inside? any ideas? Fets, caps?

This makes me sad in the pants :(

So it has seperate gain for each channel? If so with the amp off just turn the gain back and forth a few times to clean the sliders it may just be a case of a dirty pot as it is quite old, you could also get some electrical cleaner and try and squirt some in whilst rotating the pot.

I was going to say exercise the pots as well. The phoenix phorums can be very useful but when my amp broke I was talking to a brick wall - hence, the amp is still a dismantled liability :(

Nah theres only the front and rear gain, i wish there was four gains :( you guys gave me a glimmer of hope..

I was sitting in the car for an hour getting depressed, so I pulled the amp out and am about to take a look.

I will post a thred up on the phorums and get some pics up here too.

board is very clean, it appears to have been dissasembled before as the ribbon cable has been de-soldered at some point.

this is the output speaker connections. Any possibility this could be the issue?

Nice amp.
Dry or poor quality joins can certainly be one cause for what you experienced.

Just bare in mind that you may be best to replace the caps in this at some stage in the near future.
The ZX series of amps have been known to blow caps which, in some cases, is catastrophic for the amp as a whole.
The phorums have good guides on what to do and how to do it.

give the pots a workout, also use a electrical curcuit board cleaner and a fibreglass pen to give the boards near the pots a bit of a clean, I know that helped me for my Audison VRx as for some reason there was no output from one channel at all. Cleaned the board and worked and cleaned the pots and what do you know it all came back to full working order.
