Need to upgrade my car. Now I have narrowed my choices down, but my issue is my av install. I have a single din alpine unit and would like to use it and all my speakers and subs.

Current Ralliart for sure. I'd like one of these myself.

They can take a 6.5" Midbass in the doors no worries and you can easily get a Din mount facia for them.

This is a bit of an odd list to be, because:

1 - Lancer Ralliart:
Mitsubishi will like you to believe this is a 'poor man's Evo', while in reality it's really more of a overpriced VRX. Don't let the spec sheet (with turbo and 4WD) fool you - these cars are known for handling like utter dogs, and have a cheap and nasty interior. Mitsubishi wanted this to compete with the WRX, but sadly it doesn't even come close.

2 - Impressa WRX:
This is definately the best 'pure performance' car of the four. The new facelifted WRX has STI like acceleration and massively improved handling compared to the first of the new generation, and they are probably untouchable from a performance per dollar standpoint. On the other hand they are butt ugly to look at and the interior is really pretty horrid as well - then again looks are of course, subjective.

3. Ford FG XR6T:
As far as I know this is the quickest car in a straight line that you can buy for under $50k - good for a 13.4 down the quarter in stock auto trim. Handsome looking car IMO, and really quite nice inside as well - interior quality is a massive leap above the BA, and IMO easilly the best of this group. It weighs about 1800kg so it's not going to handle (or probably stop) like the WRX, but then you get the benefit of 5 seats and a massive boot...and they are actually pretty reasonable on fuel now too. It's a Ford so parts and servicing is dirt cheap. Personally, I'd choose this - I think it has the best compromise between style, interior comfort/quality, practicality, performanceand running costs.

4. Holden SV6:
No idea why this is even in the list. Firstly, this hasn't got a hope in hell of coming even close to the straight line performance of the XR6 or the WRX, and probably wont get near the lancer either. Interior is starting to look old, the exterior is (IMO) starting to look old and square, build quality is probably the worst of the group and handling is again no a match for the WRX. There just doesn't seem to be anything the Holden does that one of the others doesn't, and to be honest I don't think there is a single area wherean SV6 is better then an XR6T.

IMHO the Lancer and Commodore shouldn't be on this list - the Lancer is beaten in every possible way by the WRX, and the Holden beaten in every way by the XR6T.

So to me that brings it down to two choices - the XR6T or the WRX. That IMO all comes down to two things: Looks and size.

- If you like the look of the WRX (inside and out) and dont want / need the extra bulk/space of the Ford, get the WRX.
- If you don't mind the bulk and like the extra space, and you (like me) think the WRX looks absolutely horrid, then get the Falcon.

Just my 2c! :)

XR6T.....So much potential to make lots of power. 6 sp auto is lovely and the interiors are neat, well styled and comfy...plus the Barra 6 is a monster just waiting to be unleashed :D

Although I drive a commodore, I am not a VE fan...much anyway. The interiors are junk IMO - look at the handbrake!

The WRX and Lancer...Well, the 'rex is pretty nice but once again I'm not sure I'm a fan of the current series...and the Lancer - unless you were buying an evo, it would be a no go sir! From me. Its still a 'bits-a-missing'....

Have been leaning towards the xr6t how easy is it to replace the LCD screen in the FG's or simply leave it and mount like the bf's?

iunno, but the xr6's the year before it i think were not too bad, but if i recall, you can't turn the headunit upside down... it kills it. That sound about right?

I have an F6, easily the most 'fun' car I have owned (and I've owned plenty). 100km/h in 4th gear, coming on boost in the wet and it will just step sideways, so much fun. Sure there are plenty of things out there that will out handle it, but its super comfy on short and long trips, doesn't drink fuel unless you drive like an idiot and is pretty solid.

With the stuff that ASL are coming out with these days, the Premium OEM source is actually going to be pretty decent hooked up to a processor.
