Easy tiger, its just a discussion about old school amplifiers where everyone has their opinion. What's wrong with that? Why is everyone so damn defensive all the time?

Wow, you must have taken a lot more aggression from Marc's post than anyone else as he has a legitimate point... why were you the only one to over-react if everyone else are the defensive ones?

To add some on-topic discussion, I like the oldschool orion amps, but from a construction standpoint I bet they have that smell of old phenolic, groovy hand drawn tracks on the PCBs, and capacitors likely to spew their guts if you push them. They have their merits, but I have blown too many amps to want to run one whose attraction is that it's old. But that's just me. :)

for the record I love ALL the old gear and ALL the new gear! Its all good (to a price point) because a true SQ'r knows its not the gear, but the install... this is were creativity, talent and research (all types) can't be bought.

ok heres a challenge, and hey im not drinking:)
i will challenge you Damon to a $1500 build in a car , but we must specify,, sedan or hatch using anything you like but you must provide current value or receipts, which i will supply also.
i.e ebay , whatever.
this is the catch,,

i will use equipement , i.e HU fronts , rears , amps , subs pre 1996

and because you dont beleive in the dark ages anymore

you use equipement , i.e HU fronts , rears , amps , subs post 2006

the challenge will be in the old school format,i.e
Audiocontrol SA-3055SPL 140DB Mic , dont worry you wont exceed it:)

(SQ): pink noise freq response on an rta, i.e flat response = 40 points
(SPL):At the same settings as SQ, unlimited spl with a well known track off the 95 car audio nationals cd , confusion in the city. or trial of seconds off the autosound 2000 test 102 cd, you decide?, Possible 30 points. I.E 130db=30points 100db =0 points.
(Cosmetics):Installation can be judged out of a possible 30 points.

there will be no power limit
there will be no driver limit
you can have a wall
you cannot have more than one 12v battery
speakers must be fitted subtely and not held with blutack

The photos of the install could be posted with timestamps, i.e that days newspaper in the background , to stop us posting photos of past installs out of photo albums and the like.
MEA Members could vote on the photos of the install and finished product in a poll.
Actual listening could take place 3 months from today. I have an audiocontrol meter for testing here in Cairns, I'd need a reputable member up here to verify the scores and send them to Marc, maybe you could do the same Damon.

i was actually trying to start something which could be an interesting comparison for MEA followers. I dont have a beef with your online editor but i do have an opinion, i have been a member since 07 and enjoy reading and seeing our industry go from year to year but honestly if its not good reading just close the thread, no probs here.

I purcahsed an MTX 4160 and a 2300 based on Damons review back in edition No 1 of CSA and i think the other review was from the audio section of Hot 4's.

Whay do people buy GTHO's, they are crap and a Golf Gti will leave them for dead in every facet. Becasue they make us feel a certain way and we reflect on them with fond memories (rose coloured glasses). I'm all for it.
