In all states, we're seeing too much of "I'm out, car's not ready" or similar.

That's not very good really. This is the competition date (nine times out of ten known well in advance) and that's when the cars should be ready for.

This constant "car's not ready" attitude is resulting in dwindling numbers of CAASQ competitors at events, resulting in no return for the hosts who pay for the events!

I hate to say it (and even dramatise), but if numbers don't pick up again, CAASQ's future is not healthy! VIC and NSW especially!

We make our effort and volunteer out time (weekends!) as well as the hosts as well, but the competitors need to make an effort too.

I really don't think that's unreasonable.

PS. I do realise there are some unforseeable circumstances and even financial hardship for other, but I'm generalising here.

Hey, if there was something resembling a transmission in my car, I'd happily attend :P

But at the moment it's just got a big gap :excl:

I don't want to start another argument, but you guys DON'T volunteer your time, it's paid from what we understand.

And I'm bringing a friends car down this weekend due to him finishing a 12 hour shift at 7am that day.

Bad luck Thomas with the gearbox, see if you can come down with your old mans car and we'll start a wave in the crowd of plenty :P

OK well in NSW and QLD they DO volunteer as they haven't started paying judges yet.

And in VIC, I may pay the judges George, but I don't pay myself, so I volunteer my time, and the hosts provide staff, trophies, bbq, etc etc.

I know the half assed responces with my system isn't finished isn't good enough, I can say that mine isn't even started yet hahahahaha

For next time maybe get the store hosting it to do some advertising before the event that way it might generate an interest in what we call SQ from some of the older crowd that actually have the money and appreciate SQ and can make a store some money rather than the cheap crap we seen that got tipped out at Repco yesterday...

Kids with their half assed SQL or what ever that crap means dont really know which way they want to go, either blow their ears out and say to their mates that was loud aye? :D

Or show off to the women with softer sensual music and try and tell a woman who has far better ears than us that your system sounds good :P

I just love the half assed attempts of SQ  but I should stop laughing cause SQ does come at a price and it ain't below 5k :(

WRONG!!

Last year my system was well below 5k, and the results speak for themselves.

How can you make such a generalised comment?

With the right components, planning and self installation, you could built a competitive car in any class, Pro Show included, for under 5k.

Dion, I like what I like and for me and my system it retails for approx. 8k

Some have a budget, everyones personal taste is different and I prefer high end equipement to the run of the mill products out there.

So your speaking for yourself not for everyone and I was making a generalised comment, yours is more of a proffessional one as you being a store owner i think?

I am not trying to start an arguement, but please think before you type.

I was a competitor for a lot longer than a store owner, and no my comments are not based professionally. Being a store owner has nothing to do with it.

If you like a 8k system, great. I was simply commenting on what you said. You don't have to have a 5k system to compete. You don't need a 5k + system to be competitive. It can help, but not essential.

Saying such a gerneralised comment is not good for CAASQ. What about the people that thought they might compete in there first SQ comp, then read that?

You prefer high end equipment, well I am sure that if everyone could afford it so would they. Having said that, some of the 'run of the mill' equipment is good, if not better than the high end stuff.

Just because the equipment costs more, doesn't mean it is gauranted to be better.

I would love to compete but i am very hesitant.

Back in 1988 i entered my 323i in a BMW concourse. It was in perfect condion with a system in it that was worth more than 5K.

Soundstream power amps Alpine deck and changer Boston 3 way splits in the front 2 way plate's in the rear and 2 10" subs.
The system in car was completed about one month prior.

The car took out first place and also won the people's choice award.

2 weeks later the car was stolen. With 2 alarm systems activated they still got away with it. It was never recovered.

This is the only reason i don't compete as i have been burnt once before and i don't want to have the same experience again.

I still reckon that with a bit of planning, you could build a competitive system for pro.

I can understand your hesitation. I had my car broken into and my equipment stolen a few years ago. I also had an alarm.

Unfortuantly, that is what the world is coming to. Some people buy equipment, even they know it is hot, and it is them who is fueling the problem.

Personally I think that anyone who got caught stealing cars, or car audio should be tied to a pole and have broken bottles and rocks thrown at them. I can't quite see the authorities allowing it though.

I can see why you don't want to compete, but it was 17 years ago. Jump back on the horse and give it a go. If you wanted to, while you are at the comp take your plates off, and cover your rego sticker.

Do the rego stickers on NSW cars tell quiet a bit about where you're located?

And if i wasn't working again that night, i would have taken some codral and soldiered on

Thanks again bro :D

Unlucky Tom, couldnt have come at a worse time really :(

I agree with what Marc is saying.....but i agree more with George - Surely the hosts could advertise a bit since it's really in their favour?

No limit did, and we had alot of people turn up! Maybe not to compete, but there were a few people buying things despite the crapty weather.

Same as Autobarn :)

Perhaps some of the CAA funding can go towards an ad or two in a few car mags???

Advertising in mags is REALLY dear!!!

It is a shame about the turn outs though. I understand that people have reasons for not going to the comps, but SO many people complained that they were no SQ comps, now there are comps to go to not many people show up.

Normally there are the same faces, which is a good thing. Ideally it would be great if every competitor brought a new person with them.

I am sure the stores advertise, but they do pay for the trophies, AND the cost of advertising it would be an expensive day.

Maybe CAA could charge people a yearly fee to join up, then there would be money for advertising........... just think of the complaints then!!!!! :D:D:D

There's a map attached...

The address is
Location: Doran Pro Audio
42 Canterbury Rd Bankstown 2200 NSW, (02) 9791 6311

Easy to find if you keep your eyes out...

I must say ANYONE who "open's" their car up should be covering their plates up and rego stickers, just to make sure... However, most of the criminal's out there nowadays are too stupid to know what is what :)
Hopefully E320Titanium rocks up so i can get a listen to his car ;)

anyway i'm going to give it a quick tune tonight as i lost alot of processor settings.
hopefully it'll score ok for the comp. that's if i get a challenger...
looks like there's a bunch of easy trophies up for grabs to those who really are dedicated.

My apologies to all for not being able to make this event.

Before anyone complains, ICAHA and FHRX can both confirm that I was unquestionably going to attend this event.

Unfortunately, I was comong home late friday night, gotmyself into a split second microsleep, and hit my car into a concrete barrier on the M5.

There is no apparent major damage (thank god) aside from a little steering wheel shake while driving. Hopefully a wheel balance will fix this problem and there is no major underbody or suspension damage, but i don't want to drive the car outside my local area until I've had it check out.

I had every intention of competing in this event, despite my system not being correctly tuned etc, but unfortuantely for obvious reasons this wasnt possible.

I think I can safetly say that I can clear myself of the 'my cars not ready yet' excuse :)

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

While im far from a pro, im skeptical of this.

Remember the whole purpose of 'pro class' is that the people that are competing have either sponsorship, or professional experience in the industry.

The top guys in these classes know car audio like the back of their hand, and know how to get the best out of components.

Yeh, a 5 grand system can outperform a 10 grand system if the latter is installed poorly.. but if that 1- grand system is installed just as well or better, then i wouldnt really give entry level stuff a good chance in comparison.
