ANDROID OS in your car. Can it be done..
There making players out there.. they wont be out for ages.

Im not one to wait. lol

This is how i see it.

I have a few ways of doing this..
  • Find a touch screen display that will not only connect to a ANDROID DEVICE but allow me to use the touch screen too.
  • Build a car pc and run ANDROID some how
  • Mould a android device into the double DIN slot (bodgey)

I want both your opinions, questions, and recommendations.

I'll be installing a CarPC into my next car with Win7+Centrafuse front end, I'll be using a Samsung Galaxy SII alongside it. Not exactly what you're after but....
The easiest way of using android as an OS in a car environment, the way I see it, would be to buy a tablet using android and copy an iPad build. I don't believe you can run Android as an OS on an x86 CPU, perhaps Google Chrome OS would work better for your purposes?

Well.... I was going to wait until I was further along the track and create a proper thread but here's what I have in the pipeline.
I've got an Archos 5 IT tablet with 500gb HDD, running Androind, wifi, BT, GPS. I'm planning on building this into the dash and using as a car pc replacement. More details to come. :)

Hi,
Been over amonth since a reply to this thread but I've seen there are a few special OEMDynavin units that run Windows CE or Android designed for Audi/Mercs and BMWsspecifically. Are there any similar stereos (from other brands) that fit intostandard 2-DIN units for other car makes?:

http://www.dynavin.com/products/product_dnv_e83.php (Windows CE)
http://www.dynavin.com/android.php (they have someAndroid units but I can't find them specifically in this link - have to trawlthrough the Products page but the don't specify the o/s on the individualstereo product pages)

There aresome cheapie units for around $500 from no-name brands but I don't wantsomething that cheap and nasty. Would much prefer a recognised brand for bettersound and warranty too .

you know the old galaxy tab?

i lined one up with a toyota and they pretty much drop in with the new one (wider headunits)

you would get a great touch system already running android... i wanted to get one when everyone went on clearance..
