My 2009 CX-7 has the Bose system from the factory (9"s in front doors, 3"s on the dash, no subwoofer) and I'm wondering what my options are for aftermarket upgrades? I'd like to keep the factory headunit to retain the trip computer, dash clock and steering wheel controls along with the general OEM aesthetics.

From what I understand the Audison Bit One can accept balanced line or speaker level inputs, is this a viable alternative to replacing the headunit? If so, are would it would work from the HU pre-outs before the factory amp? Or would it be best to run it on the speaker level outputs of the factory amp? And how would the inbuilt factory amp crossovers come into play?

From what I understand there is a bit of sound processing done in the factory amp... center dash channel mono, crossover points and possibly even the actual volume control. I have attached the system wiring diagram if that helps.

Just so you know where I'm going with all this, the long term plan is an active 3-way front stage. Dyn, Cresendo or HATs (yet to audition to decide). Probably running off a couple of Arc 300.4 amps. Sub is undecided at this point too, I'll decide after the fronts are in. I was originally thinking about putting in a double-din HU with integrated navi / bluetooth etc, but I'd prefer not to if I can get away with it.

I'm more than open to thoughts and opinions, it would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

And here's the wiring diagram.

What are you going to do in the rear? Replace them, leave them off the h/u or disconnect them?

Well the ever helpful Marty from FHRX answered me...

The BitOne is designed to run in your system after the factory amplifier and can de-EQ your factory system in preparation for you to start tuning the curve to how you want it. :D

So after reading the BitOne manual I understand how it all works now. I didn't realise that it could " De-equalise" my speaker level input (post Bose amp). I also had concerns that the speaker level inputs would not take a "properly" amplified input. But after reading the specs it will take up to 20v on those. I've never measured the speaker out on an amp to know what the relevant voltage is, what kind of voltage numbers could I expect to see from say a 50watt channel? So I now have a plan going forward.

OM Flyer, I will probably not have rears at this point in time. It's usually just the wife and I in the car with no passengers. If we have kids that are old enough to care in this car I might re-evaluate it down the track.

Cheers,

The BitOne will take your amplified front speaker level in puts and sum it into a full range signal. From there you will be able to run your 3way front set up with the ARC KS 300.4's and a sub set up. Sounds like a great system on the way..
