So Kel and I are planning a trip up to Cape York next year with a couple of other friends doing old telegraph track.
In preperation im doing a bit of work to the bus but im also looking for a decent cam corder for the trip.

So does any one have recommendations for a camcorder I'd like to spend around $1500 - 2k

GoPro

For $1500 you could get 4 of them and get some great footage. Awesome cams for the money.

I had actually thought about a camera like that for bull bar mounting or roof rack mounting for some footage of the trickier sections :good:

But I more want something a little better image quality for when we have kids etc.

When you say "better image quality" are referring to a "more versatile lens?" These babies record in 1080p and are as sharp as a tack. The audio is phenomenal considering the conditions you can operate them in etc... The only time they aren't much chop is when you want to film something that is far away, but you can always just walk a little closer?

Plus you can get 2 of them and a special mount for 3D action.. If you were so inclined.

If I had to go with a conventional camera, it'd have to be this one. JVC GS-TD1

JVC have always been a front runner with camcorders.

The Canon HF G10 gets plenty of good reviews http://www.canon.com...griarange110303
QUOTE (RMA @ Feb 6 2010, 01:22 AM) My only regrets are:
Selling Fudd an amp (for a fraction of the real price) that had been returned by Autobarn Geelong which had been incorrectly used by AB Geelong and turned out to be faulty when Fudd started using it.
Whilst he was given a new amp after it could not be fixed, he never acknowledged any of the assistance given and bitches to this day about it.

I like that canon fudd! And I read that they use a different sensor than most manufacturers which gives a more natural colour especially in low light (and lets be honest 90% of home video suffers from poor/low lighting - and no Im not talking about "those" kinds of videos)

JVC looks "ok" on paper but never really been much of a JVC fan. Might have to see that one in the flesh to be convinced...

3D doesnt interest me to be honest. Its a gimmicky thing and I've not been impressed by any 3d Ive seen so I cant imagine how poor it would look when consumer grade equipment is used.
I find that those GoPro cameras the video is just "not right". Yes they capture the action and the image is sharp - but its just not "nice".

The Sony NEX-VG10 looks like a very nice bit of kit and prices look like they could fall within budget. Just need to find out more about the kit lens and optional lenses

thoughts?
