Any one know of a module or kit for delaying the headlights turning off?
IE turn the car off with the headlights left on and it leaves them on for say 30 seconds then turns them off?
Pretty sure jaycar used to do such a kit but I cant find it. I really miss the follow me home lights from the MG and every time I drive mum and dads cars I remember how good it was.
Would really help a lot as I have wired my headlights to be ignition on lights on.

Also does any one know of a delay timer so I could turn my ignition on but then have a (bypassable) 15 or so second delay till the headlights come on. cant be good for the lights to be turned on during preheat and cranking on an old diesel... I believe there is such a module for motor bikes fitted with HIDs to prevent them doing ballasts during crank

Do you think I can get enough time with a relay and a cap? And fine tune it well enough?
What about the turn on delay?

I've just decided I want this as well... My bogan-spec commodore used to do this, but my Mazdarati can't?

I have no doubts the relay and cap would work a charm for the follow me home lights - its the delay to turn the lights on that Im having trouble with. I think one of these uber 'spencive motor bike delay relays for their HIDs is gunna be the way to go *sigh* either that or I should see if I can do something with a 555 timer - but I CBF'd making up a PCB

why not have them switched with the 'lock/unlock' button on your remote entry. set up a relay that taps into the door actuator feed, the relay would need to be a change state (not sure what they are called, but when 'switched' they change state and stay like that until the next 'switch' changes it) and parallel that with the headlight switch in your dash.
just a thought.

Jonesy - GU remote central is as useful as tits on a bull.
I'm about to rip the unit out and see if I can put a better antenna on the RX unit and see if I can replace the TX unit with something better than the standard nissan unit if upgrading the antenna on the RX unit doesnt solve my issue. Not really interested in changing to an after market alarm - I have insurance and the OEM unit is fine as they cant do much unless they bypass NATS and if they bypass NATS then they know what they are doing and no 3rd party alarm is going to stop them.
In other news guy in fleebay can cut me new keys and program the NATS chip for under $70 - thats nearly $50 cheaper than any other quotes I've had and over $100 cheaper than going to my local nissan dealer!

I've got a 315mhz remote coming from hong kong which im going to set up for switching my compressor on and off and my rear light on and off and there are two spare channels still so maybe worst case scenario I use one of those.

Gunna give the cap idea a go first.

I actually wonder if the interior courtesy light kit would work connected to a relay... fully adjustable and I know how to put one of them together and cheaper than the above mentioned kit

Actually I think your onto it jonesy. Maybe if I just take out the RX board from the nissan unit and replace that I could take one of the 2 channel RX units and remove the relay (latching type) and use the output to opperate the c-locking?

Might be time to rip the dash out...

I need / want both
I want a delay from turning the ignition on till the headlights come on - so they dont come on during cranking. Then I want them to stay on for 30 seconds after I turn the ignition off (or open the drivers door - undecided at this stage)

not talking about ripping anything out. just use the signal from the central locking unit (from central to actuator) as the signal to the relay. so your headlights are on, relay is held on (latching type relay) then when you click remote to lock the doors, lights go out. i know what i mean anyway.

Yeah what your saying will work like a flip flop - what im saying though is that my nissan remote is gay as aids so if i get and after market RX unit and fit it to the existing nissan controller then take your latching relay idea to do the lights.

i dont know why your going about it the hard way.. ignition wire to adjustable 0-60 second relay and a small capacitor and after you turn off the ignition the capacitor would keep them on for 30 seconds.. depending on what size capacitor you use all running off the ignition.. :)
