I just got an email from Alpine saying that there were firmware/map updates for this unit.
I also only just noticed the "you must register within 30 days to get free map updates".
I've obviously missed that period, so am wondering about the costs of paid map updates.
Logging in to that Naviextras toolbox shows that map updates are $120 US, and safety camera updates are $25.
It mentions a 1 year subscription for the safety cameras, but nothing is mentioned for the map updates.
Does anyone know if the $120 price is for lifetime updates, or just 1 year updates like the safety cameras?
Thanks!

I got the same email, I wondered the same thing. I tried my local dealer and they didn't know.
Might be time for me to call Drew at NF, he knows ALL when it comes to Alpine.

If you have any luck let me know
Alpine AUS said to pay for the updates, and had no idea if you are buying an update subscription (ie, allowed to update for X amount of time) or if you are buying a one of update purchase, and keep paying for each future update.

The $120 is not for lifetime mapping but rather for the next 12 months etc similar to garmin, tom tom etc. It is up to you if you want to upgrade. If you don't have a problem with the van and your maps are not missing important streets etc that you need then don't update.
