Hi guys, I'm looking into selling my GTS and buying something which I'de actually enjoy driving. The GTS sits in the shed for 360 of the 365 days in a year as
#1 i dont want to run unneccessary kms up or damage such a rare and collectable car and
#2 I dont enjoy driving it as it does what it is supposed to do being a muscle car and thats go really fast in a straight line and not much else.

While I love the car I cant justify the expense to have it sitting there, unused, waiting to see if the market will appreciate its value.

If I was to sell it, at todays current market I'de be looking at somewhere between $28000-$32000 to spend on a replacement car.

I've thought about buying another WRX and continuing from where I left off with my old WRX, but this time in V5 or V6 STi guise and I've also found I can buy a tidy modified MY04-06 STi for similar money.

What are your thoughts on a decent replacement that

a: must be unique or uncommon
b: performance orientated
c: ex-showcar would be ideal
d: must have rear seats (coupe/sedan)
e: good handling
f: comfortable

I'm not at all interested in european cars so it must be Jap or Aussie.

i would go the WRX or EVO of the same age .

both cars well work for you and all the performance/service backing is hear and not all the way on the other side of the world .

in saying that the mark 5/6 golf gti really go like a bat out of hell . dont rule them out compleatly untill you have given them a good drive . you never know untill you try .

if it was me i would be looking at a EVO 8 MR , that is what i would buy if i have to upgrade from my 06 WRX.

STI Forester, if you can find a genuine one.:good:

I have only ever been a passenger in an EVO 7 but you feel like a complete tool, people that know nothing about cars think you are in a NA crapbox with wings and people that do know cars want to race. They are a good way to lose your licence, cops drive a range of different cars so you never know who wants to race, the one I was in had 240KW ATW and the owner sold it because it was too boring on the road.

I was going to say Abarth 500 but the no Euro and needs back seats rules it out, small cars are the only way to have fun without losing your licence.

Volvo 2001 S60T5

Front Mid- CDT HD2
Front Tweeter- CDT ES010
Amp1- Soundstream Tarantula TR800/5(Runs tweeters mids and sub)
Amp2- Zapco Ref 75.2(Runs front midwoofers)
Nothing good ends in phile.

Well you almost perfectly described a Euro car Dan, but what about:

TRD Aurion
Lexus GS/Toyota Aristo
Nissan Stagea
Mitsubishi legnum or galant

Yeah Ross, what euro car(s) were you thinking?

I looked at GTi Golfs, but couldnt see myself in another high powered fwd car so it rules out GTi, Ford Focus, Alfa Romeo etc. Golf R32 is nice (a mate drives one so I can easily get my hands on one for a decent test drive) but would hate to imagine maintenance/repair costs if anything went wrong :(

I have the exact same oppinion on the EVO... too many evo body kitted NA lancers have spoilt the appeal of a real EVO which is a shame as they are a great car

Well I might look into euro cars as running costs arent really important as it would be doing less than 5000km per year and maintenance costs of my current car is high based on the requirement for OEM parts to maintain originality for resale value.

After seeing Dan's post about the R36 the other day, I drove home from work last night and lo and behold, there was an R36 'wagon' parked on the side of the road here in Ballarat!
Looks better in the pictures than in the flesh . (imo)

If it was in budget, I really would consider one for myself but with the modest budget I have to work with could barely afford the baby brother; the R32 (golf).

Adam: really? what colour was it? I've only seen one R36 in the flesh and it was a very dirty/muddy one at one of the construction sites I work at.

Dan, it was that VW 'royal blue' colour with chrome trim. And was also rather dirty, so that may have affected how it looked.

Plus one for the Passat R36, saw a very nice one here in syd drive past the other day, I thought it looked surprisingly tuff for a VW.
