Hi, guess what is my profession?
Anyway my introduction to your group was made by searching how to hard wire connect to the "unconnectable" McIntosh premium system in my Subaru 2005 Liberty 3.0 RB.
I saw the article written by Damon Dupriez on how he recreated the stereo system and more in the same model.. Excellent work-a real tribute to you Damon.( Big dollars and if I am correct you are in NSW -a bit far to travel for the job-but you never know -would you like to do it again?.)
At the moment I use an FM transmitter device to listen to my i"idiot" music source. It is poor compared to what the head unit can do.
This source and hopefully the method of attaching to the head unit will be changing shortly to Android smartphone that will use probably a 3.5mm output for the earpiece.
Any ideas of "wiring" an "aux in" to this head unit and how it is controlled by the head unit.
I have heard that CLARION EA1251 or Axxess AIP-CL-ID will do the job. I can get the latter for about $40 off Amazon.
Any experts know the pros and cons of these units for my purpose.
Damon, Thanks again for the professional work

This thread talks about using the EA1251: Thread
The trouble is, the ancient Clarion system was hopeless as an iPod adaptor. Essentially you had to create five new playlists in iTunes and put all of your tracks into these. Then the source would 'see' each playlist as an album. You may have thousands of tranck in each playlist, but there's no way of searching them. Its hopeless.
I suggest either sticking with CD or buying the replacement fascia and replacing the source as in the DIY story I did here on MEA.
