I bought a tablet PC for using a car diagnostics tool but can't istall the software as I found out I need XP pro or 7 running in XP mode to install it.

For now I just want to try and run 7 on an external drive and boot from that when I have to do diagnostics. I know it can be done as I have see the writeup on intowindowshttp://www.intowindo...rive-must-read/ but I'm more of a computer noob than an audio noob so I couldn't really understans what was going on.

After a bit of searching I found a small program called Win to flash which is supposed to be able to do it but much more easily, all I ended up doing was storing a copy of 7 on a memory card which isn't really what I wanted to do. Is there a way I can use win to flash to make a windows 7 boot disk(flash drive)?

If anyone answers please keep it simple, I know how to annoy people on forums and how to upload pics but that's it.

Cheers,
James.

What version of WIn 7 is it. If its anything other than Home is has XP mode built in.

If it is home you can add it.

The car : 1999 WRX
Pioneer DEHP7050BT

minidsp
MB Quartl Fronts
Kenwood amps
Kenwood Sub.
Does the job for now. Build in progress.

It's ultimate, but I don't want to run 7 all the time just for diagnostic duties as I think I will lose a few of the Fujitsu tablet functions if I run 7 as the normal OS, will have to look into it more.

I never got it to work reliably, as the bios needs to be able to make the USB appear as a drive.

OK I think I have it sorted, at the moment I have XP installing to an external drive and it will be operated inside a shell which means I will be running two operating systems simutaneously(sp?) how XP will run over USB I'm not sure as I have both the operating software and the shell software on the same drive.

Oh yeah where do I find this XP mode anyway?

Cheers.

you run the program in xp mode under properties. Thats my understanding any way. You dont actually run a windows xp if that makes sence

i used to run XP in a shell, worked well..

also at one point had Vista with XP and Ubuntu both running in shells at the same time... computer didnt really like it much though haha
QUOTE (RMA @ Feb 6 2010, 01:22 AM) My only regrets are:
Selling Fudd an amp (for a fraction of the real price) that had been returned by Autobarn Geelong which had been incorrectly used by AB Geelong and turned out to be faulty when Fudd started using it.
Whilst he was given a new amp after it could not be fixed, he never acknowledged any of the assistance given and bitches to this day about it.

Gosh dang it, two months of stuffing around and all my problems were caused by a bent pin on the OBD scan tool, running Windows tablet again and the program works flawlessly, cleared my airbag code recalibrated the yaw sensors and got rid of the service reminder light.

Best $250 I have spent in a long time, I have now found out wy my car is misfiring under boost, it seems the wastegate is adjusted to 14Psi, it should be 4.5Psi so I have a nice boost spike.

Well it seems I now have a problem, if I have programs running and shut the lid my computer decides it wants to wake up running 7 instead of XP which it was in when the lid closed. It also tells me it has recovered from the BSOD and wants to send an error report, strange stuff.

most "WinXP" hardware - especially in laptops - does not play nicely with Win7
