I'd basically dismissed this as a possible way of getting internet into my shed, which is a million miles away from the house and made of wireless killing colourbond, as I assumed both ends would have to be on the same circuit.
However, when I seen a kit on special, I did some research and found that they only need to be on the same 'phase'.
I ordered a set, whacked one end into a power point next to my modem inside, the other end into a power point in the shed..... it works so epic awesome!!!!

I just finished putting it up on the wall, along with a secondary wireless access point = epic awesome WiFi in the shed.

Edit: This isn't a problem, it's a suggestion :P

i have been wondering how well these work.
what kinda speeds do they get?
QUOTE (RMA @ Feb 6 2010, 01:22 AM) My only regrets are:
Selling Fudd an amp (for a fraction of the real price) that had been returned by Autobarn Geelong which had been incorrectly used by AB Geelong and turned out to be faulty when Fudd started using it.
Whilst he was given a new amp after it could not be fixed, he never acknowledged any of the assistance given and bitches to this day about it.

In a house with semi decent wiring your looking at roughly 10mbps (likes you would get on a standard Ethernet cable)

I believe they come in 200mbps (which i've got), 300 and 500 versions.
Each gets a drop in speed over distance, quality of the cables, interference from other devices, etc.
What i'm doing is probably one of the worst cases of distance and crappy wiring.
I haven't done any real testing yet, but it's definetely better that 10mbps.
Will get back to y'all.

Which brand/model did you buy?

I've been tossing up between the AV 500 and AV 200 from net gear, obviously ones the 200mbps and the other 500 but alot i'm reading about says that there is very little real world difference :/

I had one for my shed which worked really well until I started plugging other things into the same power point. Has anyone else had this problem or is it just the crappy one I bought?

I use the netgear ones.

awesome.. my bungalow is 50m (mains cable length) from the house, and works fine.

get about 100Mb/s over the long haul, and 140 to 180 on short-haul in the house.
also, the WiFi extender units (built-in to the EOP adapter) works seamlessly with the AP.

The 4-port units for tv/media, etc. is good to

Wouldnt a wireless setup with yagi antennas be a better / more reliable solution?
Like you could be on the same phase but won't there be a transformer between here and there?

nah, the tranny is almost next door, supplies our two streets. would be interesting to find out. might also be cheaper than setting up antenna everywhere.

The connection stops at your metering point (as a result of the metering unit)

Just these: http://www.shoppings...0Mbps_Twin_Pack
They were marked down to sixty-something and had $1 postage that day.
Build quality seems to be pretty good.
I've also read in a number of forums that other companies use the same ones and just rebadge them.

I'll basically only be using them to stream MP3's and probably a bit of 'p!ssed YouTube'.
