why SPL? going to put a beating on Sam?

This brings a question to mind, for SPL it says tones but does the tone have to play the full 30sec like musc in all other classes?

coz i dont wanna blow my fresh recone by playing music through it with 12kw lol :P, il play some songs after ive posted some numbers but im gonna be careful with it this time lol, no more chopped and screwed for a couple of hours :P

Marc and myself had a discussion today and while we are all aware that the current Bass Battle format is flawed, we agree that the purpose of Bass Battle is this:

"To encourage novice competitors to go out there and have fun, and seasoned competitors to have casual, friendly competition against other seasoned competitors".

With the purpose in mind, and an understanding that "judges discretion" applies across the board, I have made the following judgement call:

ANY person that has competed in a Pro or Open category (with any car whatsoever) at any time under MEASA SPL rules will have to compete in either the Pro GP or Pro SPL category at this competition.

This list includes the following people:
  • Marvey
  • James
  • Gordon
  • Dean
  • AJ
  • Callum
  • Jamie (both)
  • Bobo
  • Sammy Mc
  • SPL Sam
  • Eric
  • Any other competitor that has competed in a PRO or OPEN category under the current MEASA SPL format.
Subsequently - Anyone who falls within the above group of people will also not be allowed to operate any car entered in Novice category. I have no issue with you guys building/testing/coaching and overall helping Novices get loud, but the Novice alone must be operating the controls during the qualifying and finals runs on the night. For example, AJ will not be allowed to operate Chloe's car on the night if Chloe's Baleno is entered in Novice.

As mentioned before, we are all aware that the current Bass Battle format needs work, but we went ahead with it in order to trial the format and get some quality information about Bass Battle as a format. It is a format in testing, and I make no apologies for going out on a limb and trying new things in a bid to ultimately better Car Audio competition as we know it. This upcoming competition is about getting Novices to have fun, bring new life to the competition scene and have relaxed competition on the night.

I am honestly looking forward to seeing what this comp will bring, the weather is shaping up to be perfect and Autobarn have gone to alot of effort to put on a great show and really promote the Audio side of this gathering. The trophies are ordered, the prizes are all ready to go, I can't wait to see how it all turns out.

If you have any queries please PM me, but please check your attitude at the door before hitting the "send" button.

Thats a great idea to give non seasoned competitors a chance Sorin.

Edit: Hopefully the SPL bug bites them.

A tough call a week out from a comp and I know it was not made lightly
But you have my support Sorin and I will be there to help run the comp as promised

To encourage novice compation and the enthusiast to come on a regular basis
We need to review the term pro in the classing for S.A.
By the true definition of pro it would only be Callum Beau and my self

We need a clear description of what it takes to no longer be considered a novice
and still have the opportunity for the enthusiast to compete in low power minimal sub class

I also know you have asked for PM’s but fill it was important for all competitors to know
the S.A. compation committee are listening to all objections and call it in the best interest of the host store, novice competitor, advanced or (pro) competitor, and spectators

We also accept not everyone will be 100% happy with some judgment calls

I think it is great that MEASA is trying to encourage new people to come along and have a go because i believe that is the type of thing that will make this "sport" even better.

The only thing about how this has been catered for (at least for this Friday anyway) is that it runs the risk of making people who have supported MEA feel as if they are being pushed out.

Just as an example we could take Gordon's car, in MEASA SPL it just barely reaches the "pro sedan" clasification but with this new meathod he is expected to run his 1500w systems against Bobo's 12,000w system, IF Gordon turns up he is clearly not coming for the competition. (I have not talked to Gordon or Bo, they were just used as an example)

I agree 100% new people need to be attracted to MEA and even though I don't have the answers and i really do appreciate those that are trying to solve it, I don't believe it should be at the detriment of making current members feel as if they are being pushed out due to being classed out of the compitition.

Dean.

No problems competing in a Pro class considering experience.

Although I think if it were to become a permanent rule there desperately has to be more than two Pro classes, otherwise we're catering for Novices at the expense of experienced players, I can see it having a detrimental effect.

Absolutely agree on that front Dean and Callum - Come out, have a good time, enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and catch up with everyone, I want all of your feedback on this format on the night too.

In the interest of keeping this event thread focussed on the event itself, I ask that you guys continue any feedback or discussion about Competition Format in the thread below:
