so i've recently bought a car from adelaide, it's all paid for and sitting eagerly awaiting it's new ownership...

this is where the issue starts...

the caprice is currently in no shape to be towing so far, it's having heating issues and generally needs a bit more maintenance before i'd do the trip again, even without towing a car back...

i've contacted a few trucking companies, but keep running into the same issues, most transporting companies want the car to be driving, and with an empty interior, this car is running, but the issue is that it has sat around for a while, and i really want to drop the oil and fuel before i fire it up... so in this case, it's not a runner... and with the issue of the car being empty, i'm buying it with plenty of spare, and excess parts... so the interior will be somewhat loaded up for the trip... and the transporting companies aren't liking this idea...

SO....

i thought i would see if anyone from SA would be willing to pick up the car on my behalf, and drive it here...? or even if it were to make it 90% of the way and i could meet up and do the swapsies...

i would be happy to compensate for your time and costs, and perhaps a place to stay over night...?

the other thought was with MEA finals coming up, if anyone would be willing to drive it to ballarat and i'd pick it up from there...? obviously i'd be more than happy to cover your costs and such... but we can get into specifics at a later point...

what do you guys think..?

I have a trailer and time but I have no tow car because dad's car developed a issue in Marvey's drive way lol and even after a change of water pump it still leaks :-/

If a trailer isn't a goer for you, (I hope it is,) I'd be telling the transport companies to suck it up and do what you're paying them for. :) The car in question will easily run enough to get it onto a truck and off again, no need to drop fuel and oil for the sake of getting it onto a truck. 4K engines will run for ~20 minutes without coolant OR oil from experience.

Hope you can get it trailered as it's much less of a headache than some of the 'professional' freight companies...

What sort of car? I ask because the combined towing weight may be an issue for those looking to help you out.... a lightweight barina might be no dramas... an F100 tank may be a different proposition?

ahhh you bring up a good point fnlow...

as i do want to keep the car on the down low a little, lets just say it's a small wagon, around the same size as ke70 corolla wagon... dry weight of the car is 900kgs on paper, so with the spare parts in it, i'd call it around an even tonne...

so definitely not an overly large or heavy car...

i'm really trying to stay away from transport companies, so hopefully it doesn't come down to that, but if need be then i'll approach that angle if and when tthe time comes, so far the response from them hasn't been great...

I say you fix the car as far as it needs, get a $50 permit and drive it home. As Big_Val said, engine is solid!! :)

ill find out if i can get the trailer i used last week for that weekend, it was $95 for 6 hours though, not sure how much it would be for the weekend...

EDIT: just had a look on their site, $251 for 4 days (thursday night pickup, monday night dropoff just incase i dont get back early enough sunday night)

il also check with the guy we borrowed the one from for the last few vic trips and see if its available
