Hi guys, apparently I have had an account for quite some time even though I don't recall signing up but today someone told me to have a look around the site and it's nice. A lot of knowledgable people and that around by the looks so hopefully you guys will be able to help me in the next few months. Anyway onto who I am...

Well I'm 17yr old guy from Ballarat, Victoria, currently just finishing yr12 in the next few weeks, I turn 18 in december (GET MY P's! :D ), I have loved everything about audio since I could walk really. I have always played around with speakers, amps etc.. I even managed to electricute my self at the humble age of 7 while I was pulling apart some electronics. I currently have a nice sound system in my room that has almost destroyed my window completely. I also like computers and gaming but audio has always been my real passion I guess. I did have a 1994 toyota spacia van but we are selling that and I will most likely be getting a ~94 Ford Wagon since my uncle is getting a new car. I currently own an Eonon Double din touchscreen head unit (POS!!), Hifonics BRZ1200.1, Response 320rms 4ch, 2x 07 Kicker Comp 12s, Set of Cadence 6.5" splits, set of Cadence 6.5" coax and a set of Cadence 4" coaxs. I plan on getting some 15" subs in the next few months but I am having trouble finding some at a reasonable price that will take 600rms a piece.

So yeah I have a youtube where I post up random audio and computer videos but they are all pretty old and s***. I plan on probably starting a new channel once I turn 18 and get my licence, I would like to put up videos of peoples systems I have checked out in my area and just general videos. Yeah anyway, I know a lot more about audio than most people my age but obviously I'm not professional so if I do or say anything that is "noob" or wrong please do correct me because I want to learn more.

Here is my youtube if anyone is interested http://www.youtube.c...ser/samstar1412

Yeah I think that is all I need to say, if anyone wants to know anything else or has any comments about my current parts then go ahead :)

welcome to the addiction..

i was like you too.. electronics always interested me... especially audio.

what i will tell you now is it is a very expensive but rewarding hobby...

keep what you have now and install it into your first car.. this way.. if you screw something up it wont cost you that much..

upgrade as funds come in..

if audio really interests you.. than i could recommend doing a tafe course on car audio/accessories (6 month course) and see where that takes you... even if your not after a job in the industry, its good to know this stuff..

this forum is a great place to start and you will learn heaps from reading through other people's threads as i have...

Thank you for the welcome and the suggestions. I was actually thinking about doing a tafe course or two in mobile electronics as I would really like to work in the area but I think I might also do my cert iii in information technology as well. I don't really know that there would be to many job opportunities in my area, there are the big places like jb hifi and autobarn but there is one place that is independant in my area and they seem really good so there may be job opportunities somewhere. As for being expensive I know that one for sure haha I'm lucky to have as much as I do, I've got $500 saved up but I am thinking I am going to need that for new power wire and accesories before I buy new subs.

Hey Samstar, your addiction seems to have developed much the same way as mine did, tinkering. Some of the most fun I'd ever had with electronics was tinkering with whatever gear I could get a hold of and getting it to go as hard as possible. Before I'd even hit my teens I was making transmission line speakers with PVC pipe and different sealed and ported alignments (not that I knew exactly what they were back then!)

Electronic engineering at TAFE is the best direction IMO, the specific skills for cars are things you pick up with some intuition and informal study (here and other forums.) If you can nail attention to detail without taking forever to get stuff done, you are a shoe in for many installation places, try and go somewhere specialised / independent however as generally you will get the opportunity for more work variety and more satisfaction.

And welcome to the forums!
