Hi guys.

So, have an e3 HSV with Holden IQ.... The speakers are so crappy, I seriously can't understand how HSV get away with them in a $70K+ car!?!?

Anyway, Looking at replacing the fronts, been advised not to touch the rears (apart from disconnect them) and spend all of the budget on the front splits.

Now, my question is, I've been told to use an amp with a high level input, so I can run the speaker wires directly into the amp, I'd only need a two channel amp. So do I use the stock colour coded wiring already in the car for the speaker? When I run these to the amp, do I need to marry the amp with the IQ unit? Or because I've used the existing speaker wires, will the amp and IQ already be "connected"?

All you need to do is wire the existing front speaker wires to the high level input on your amp, and run new wiring from the amp into the new speakers. Say 16-14gauge wire. And all should be dandy :)

Thanks,

So Marty has said for my budget, I should get the Hertz HE2 AMP and Crescendo Opus 3 splits for the front (Have no rear speakers).

So basically, I need to run the stock cables (which are colour coded and plugged into the stock speakers) into the high level input in the AMP, then, run speaker wire from the AMP to the actual new speakers? Is this correct?

Will I suffer engine noise?

Sounds like a good plan to start with. I would definitely include some sound deadening in your budget though to seal the front doors and get the most out of mid-budget speakers.

Your wiring ideas are correct. It's most convenient to join your wiring into the speaker outputs as they leave the headunit - there was a connector on the right side of the headunit on the E1 and E2, I am unsure of E3 but it might be similar. Run new speaker wiring from your amplifier to the new speakers. Engine noise will depend entirely on if you do the install right or not. Avoid putting crossovers near the passenger side floor as you risk picking up engine noise from the power cable under the floor there. Put the crossover instead up under the dash. Same goes for signal wires, RCAs and speaker wires.
