Bought my tickets to the Melbourne one ages ago on presale.
There are a few bands there that i'd like to see, but primarily Slipknot.

I've never been to one of these, and coming from the middle of nowhere, I don't really have any mates that have, so what's the deal on a few things?
(There's very little on the site)

Do they sell a billion tickets and cram you in like sardines?
Is it worth lining up hours in advance to get in first?
How many stages do they have?
As I said, Slipknot is the most important.... will I have to fight to get to see them / hang out where they're going to be and miss out on everything else?

Any other handy info?

Ha ha, hope this makes sense.

i was at the 1st soundwave, and found it to be buy far the best festival i've been too... your definitely not stuffed in like sardines, unless you want to by right up by the stage, but no matter what gig you go to, you'll always find this the case...

there's usually about 5-7 stages, one main stages 3-4 seconday stages, which are still on the large side, then sometimes an acoustic stage or two...

lining up early all depends on who your want to see, that isby far the hardest part of the day, with so many great bands your almost guaranteed to miss out on someone.... make sure you get yourself a timetable before the day, and mark out a schedule, and keep it on you at all times, even setting alarms on your phone etc, for the headlining acts, if you want to be close to the stage (highly recommended) it's often advisable to sacrifice a band, and get down into the mosh for the 2nd main support, this way you'r almost definitely going to be up close for the main act...

and most of all, DRINK PLENTY OF WATER, it doesn't matter if you don't like water, drink it by the bucket load, the #1 issue with festivals is dehydration, your usually too busy running from stage to stage to see your favorite bands that you don't have time to drink, and if you do it's usually not alot, nothing worse than spending all day running around catching bands you don't mind, only to spend the night in the st'johns area missing out on the headlining acts you really wanted to see...

allin all, if you go in prepared, you'll have a fantastic time!!!

p.s, do NOT go crazy on the drinks the night before, drinking multiple 1ltr bolttles of strait, mixed into crazy concoctions in a drunken fury the night before WILL lead to vomiting the entire way to the show, and spending 90% of the day on the bleachers watching everyone else have fun from a distance...

Went the year Incubus and Offspring played, was a great event, much better than BDO!

I remember a few years back when Rage played at BDO. At that stage I missed out on their sideshow so I stayed in the front D from 11am till 8pm with a mate so we could watch them. 32 degrees at the showgrounds just kept getting our water bottles filled up by the hose boys and yet didn't need to go to the toilet once!
