The only thing i don't like about the Fountek is its appearance - i don't think i could put up with a shiny aluminium speaker up in my face lol.

Dayton RS100 is not far behind in performance (and looks heaps better!) - Harmonic distortion is up a bit in the higher frequencies compared to the Fountek but still very good regardless.

It's close across most of the frequency range, but I do have a few concerns about the Dayton. First is that it's a much larger driver physically (more like a 4" in dimensions) compared to the Fountek, and that makes it not as easy to sneak into small spaces. Secondly is higher distortion from 1khz to 5khz...in particular the at least 10dB higher 3rd, 4th and 5th order harmonic distortion between 2khz and 5khz. This is right bang in the middle of the most critical frequency range and for a driver which would be focussing primarilly on midrange, it's the one area I'd not want to sacrifice so much.

The more i look at the Fountek the more i try to convince myself that they'll look ok in my car lol. Maybe i could make some removable cloth grills :P

edit: theres also an FR89-EX which seems to be similar to the 88 but is black (some kind of coating?) and has a slightly larger underhung motor.
