Box and subs?

Now it has come the time to upgrade to something decent.
I have an Alpine MRP-M1000 which does 1000rms into 2 ohms.
What I'm looking for is suggestions on what subwoofers and in what box. Preferablly 2 12" but I could go up to 1 15". I could also be tempted to go with a bandpass box of some sort. Not quite sure though.
My aim is to have a good kick from the subs when needed but also I want them to sound nice when I listen to my music. So a mix of SQ and SPL
I'm open to all suggestions
Cheers
Sam

I can make the box myself, so probably around $100 for the box. $300 for the subs

if only $300 for both i would be looking around for a single 2nd hand 15" or 12"...
you can usually find some pretty good bargains around the place, and don't discount 10"s either... you can get some seriously beefy 10"s these days...

I'd go one decent 15, find a decent one second hand and you will be laughing.

Bonecrusher 2 4000w rms @ 1 ohm 12v

we indeed are...
something along the lines of these Vibe Space 15"s would do quite nicely...

or even this Boston G5 is a great single woofer setup...
http://www.mobileelectronics.com.au/forums/index.php/topic/564474-fs-sub-clear-out-digital-designs-boston-rockford-fosgate-and-more/
a single better sub will do a better job than 2 mediocre subs, quite often it will not only sound better, but get louder than 2 average quality ones... there IS a point where that isn't the case, but with a budget of around $300 for woofer(s) the money is better spent on a better quality single 2nd hand unit...

I personally would go the Vibe because it is a great sounding sub but can also get very loud if need be.
