I'm shopping for a new amp/amps for my DD 3515 dual 1.5 ohm sub. I have 3 options - 3 ohm, 0.75 ohm or dual 1.5 ohm configs. Whats I was thinking is maybe running a single big amp at 0.75 or a pair of mid sized amps at 1.5 each. The single amp would be cheaper and easier to implement for me, but i'm worried about the impedence. I know impedence rise is abundant in spl cars for burping, but how would I go running a daily system at 0.75 with a 1 ohm amp? Am I ok in thinking that imp rise will take me over 1ohm at most frequencies, therefore not smoking my amp?

hmmmm it's a hard one... i will let other more knowdegable on the matter give a more definitive answer,

but i would say to aim for a higher impedance than a lower one for daily use, i don't think you would have too many issues running at .7ohm on most amps, but i always like to err on the side of safe... as at .7ohm your getting mighty close to a strait short, 3ohm is a much nicer place to be for daily listening...

maybe buying a bigger am than you need and then running at a lower impedance? you could always swap it down to .7ohm at comps if you compete...?

i know Big Val is selling a nice big monster of a clif designs mono nice and cheap atm....?

If it was something like crusher id feel safe doing so with proper battery power. But if your that worried 2 amps at 1ohm could be the go

With the 3515, I had run it on Sorin's Hertz HP1D mono @ 0.75ohms, bass raced with 2 x 75Ahr Absorbed's behind it with no dramas, neither amp or sub got warm or showed any negative signs... Though if you want to be safe, 3ohms daily, 0.75 for burps!!

The main thing you need is a strong power supply in your amp and the battery power to support it. I could run my amp .5 all day because i got the battery power to handle it.

IMO there's no use running it below minimum rated impedance ie 0.75 ohms daily. 3 ohms would be safe and for music listening still heaps loud really.

My problem with running at 3 ohm is that there aren't many amps at my price range that will give me the power I want. The Alpine 2k amp is the closest I can find that does good power at 3-4 ohms, but its over my budget. I can get pair of Fusion/Kenwood/Option amps that all do around 700-900rms at 1.5 ohm for just over $500, maybe thats the way to go unless someone knows of a single amp with 1.2k plus at 3-4 ohm around $500?

If you get a second hand JL "Slash" 1000/1

They bench around 1100 - 1200 RMS, 1 ohm to 4 ohms.

Yep one of those or a PG Xenon 1200.1 which does the same I think. I might just have to go with 2 x amps, one for each coil @1.5. Should still get 1500rms+ if I choose right.
