Why do you want five subs? with one being amazing, and the other four being standard?

a few questions to help you:
Why so many subs?
What are you aiming for?
What's your budget?
How much space have you got/ car?
What amp do you have? or are you going to get an amp to suit afterward?

What are you aiming for? SQ, and enough SPL while still being able to sit in the car.
What's your budget? None really, but the cheaper means the sooner I can buy it.
How much space have you got/ car? VZ
What amp do you have? or are you going to get an amp to suit afterward? Void with the corrected post.

Cheers.

2 SA-8's (yes I said 8's) and something around the 2kw mark... Then work on box design... This is were you will pick up your louds, both audible louds (what you hear) and visual louds (what you can see moving, flexing etc).

To be totally honest, I highly doubt you have anywhere near enough room for 4 12's to be in anywhere enough air-space.

Yes, 4 x 12's will shock amatuers and people that know nothing about car audio, however, getting big flex and heaps of noise then popping the boot and saying "All that from 2 8's" is gunna shock people ALOT more.

Only problem is it seems very complicated, I don't know how to tune a box or how much watts to give it, or how to give it more watts.

How about 2 P3D2-12 in the P3-2X12 Dual P3 12" Loaded Enclosure running off a T1500-1bdCP?

oh.. Please excuse my herp derpiness.. Thought they were all subs <derps>

It's not that complicated.. You could get it installed professionally, that'd probably help out a lot.

See this recent topic for more info: http://www.mobileele...be-best-for-me/

For visual impact, 'more' can be better. But probably at the expense of performance. So you need to decide if you want 'show and less go', or more 'go'.

Probably best to stick with 1~2 12" subs or 1 15" sub, and choose subs that suit ported boxes, then have that box built, which might end up around 3~5cuft/84~140L. Big and heavy!

Just thought I'd dive in and say; 'everyone' does visual impact - go to Summernats or the like and almost every other car has screens everywhere and boots lined with speakers.

Which I imagine is Jay_laser's point.

My vote goes for one 15" speaker too. Put it in a nice big box and you will have nice accurate bass for 'SQ' but be able to pump it for your mates.
Plenty of good 15"s out there, perhaps seek some professional advice if your install techniques are not up to scratch though,\. No matter what sub you get, it will not impress unless installed correctly (or should I say you will not get the full potential from the installed equipment).

I found an audio specialist today, he is a Boston rep so he was trying to shove Boston down my throat.

I guess my question is, is Boston as good as he says they are?

He also said there was no point using two subs or even using a 15". He said I should just use a 12" in a closed box and have a reflection (not sure if that is the term for it) sub instead of a port.

Edit: A Radiator sub, that's what he called it!

Boston Acoustics offer a number of different subs, so you'll need to be specific about what model. A 'passive radiator' performs similarly to a ported box, and can be a good option, but relatively expensive.

I would say that BA are worth considering, but also look elsewhere, cos there's plenty of choice. If you're chasing loud, low, penetrating subbass, probably worth having a read and seeking advice in the Ground Pounders/SPL subforum.

I'm chasing a bit of both really, I was thinking of having SQ splits and then a more SPL sub?

I'm getting a demo of the Boston some time this week and I guess that I'll make my decision on weather or not there is enough bass for my liking.

Also I was thinking of this build (using Boston):

Sub - SPG555
Rad - SPG-TR
Amp - GTA-1000M
Fronts - SPZ60

I search ebay and I can get this for a total of $1939.44 including postage.
