I have just got myself a project car to wall and went around today to some shops to look at subs. The only 15" I could find anywhere was a US audio in a prefab box and everyone was telling me that no-one makes them any more. I don't have lots of $$ to put into subs, so I am looking at cheap ones. Anyone have any idea where I could find a few, maybe 4 or 6?

plenty of companies still make 15"s just not your typical pioneer/kenwood brands, and most that ARE available, are rarely kept in stock because at the end of the day, 12"s are still more popular, as people seem to think that 10"s are punchy, and 15"s are laggy, so 12"s must be perfect... which is obviously not true... lol

you may have to go to a more "specialist" retailer to get your hands on 15"s

at the end of the day like lunch box hit on you just have to go to the right places and know where to look, what sort of price range are you looking at for the 4-6 subs?

Realistically, as little as possible. It is a very budget build to start with. I don't want to blow heaps of money and gear building my first wall.

I won't be deciding on a final setup for the wall until i work out how much space I will have, and then will be working out exactly what I can do.In saying that, I am extremely flexible in what I am looking for and how many. Basically looking at what is available for as little as possible, and building the car to suit. Looking at 4 x 15s or 8 x 12s as a guideline, but would prefer 15's.

So far this is what I have found:

US Audio 15 in prefab - $130
Rockford P1S8-15 - $130
Prolinear PLS125X in prefab - $50
Jaycar Paper 12s - haven't checked price yet.

Seeing that i am in Maryborough, QLD, there is no real specialists around. I am searching around online but am having little luck, damn the internet is full of crap.

there's PLENTY of cheap gear around to be found... if you keen on 12s, i know there's a guy around NSW doing a pre sale on some pretty impressive 12"s with a price thats just too tasty to ignore... could be an option, i believe Shiredhr might have a little more information than i if you guys wanted to exchange details in pm...?

other than that, you should be able to get plenty of gear for around $100 - $150 a woofer, definitely won't be anything too amazing, but for a budget wall with plenty of cone area it's a great way to go about it...

brands that pop to mind with good budget line of woofers are

- fusion
- Memphis
- actually i'm drawing blank atm, if i think of more i'll add them... lol

Fifteen inch subs exist, but their not offered by budget brands, or budget level gear because the kind of customers shopping in the <$150 price bracket are all as Steve said, "10's are punchy, 15's laggy so 12's are awesome." Makes no financial sense to build or stock 15's for these budget people.

- Memphis make 15's in their PR lineup. $300 roughly, not a bad street sub, but it's not gonna yeild massive bass.
- Arc make a 15, $399 (i think) and 750wrms, designed to reproduce low frequencies. Not an SPL sub, but the 8's, 10's and 12's i've heard are impressive.
- Soundstream do a 15 from $299 to $1,299... However, not sure if the offer is still on, they were doing an SPLX15 for $299 with any other soundstream purchase over $100... maybe not on, or might be worth emailing them and giving some brief details about your plans, you might be able to still grab if for that price.
- Kicker Comps, $220...
- You can search online for used Clarion PXW's or Fusion PowerPlants for cheap
- If all else fails, and you've got a serious amp/battery setup, two dudes on the FS section are selling DD 15's for $600, with the right power and box setup these will rock as hard as 4 cheap 15's.

Thanks for the comments guys. I am planning for my build to be an extremely low budget to start with. I know that to most a $300 sub is budget, but I don't wish to spend that much at first. This will mainly be an experiment for me so I don't want to spend much.

I haven't had a chance to ring around Brisbane yet, hopefully someone will have some old stock they want to get rid of.

I had a look into Fusion's range, but they don't have the 15's on their site or in their brochures.

if your looking at super low budget woofers the US audio ones arent that bad, i bought one to have a laugh with and burn at a comp a while ago and it survived quite a few burps off my Epsilon ea5000d lol, pulled 131.8 db inverted in the prefab box, with 4 or 6 of them in a decent box you should be able to make plenty of noise, then upgrade to better subs later on down the track when you have some more money :)
