ok so i have got some wiring issues im pretty sure, basically my alpine single din dvd player is turning itself on and off but it only happens when the car is on motion but it doesnt take much just rolling up and down the drive way will do it.

to eliminate some possibilities i have borrowed the same head unit off a mate connected it up and the problem still happened.
i then temporarily re wired the constant power but its still doing it.
so i have taken it to the local auto electrician and he cant work out what it is, and recommended i take it somewhere else haha

im unsure what to do next, please help

thanks
Jarrad

Have you tried running a constant wire straight from the battery? Could be a short further up the line... But I'm thinking more accessory wire... Unless it fully tries power, then reboots, as apposed to turning off as it would when you tub it off.. But i'm just guessing

A few extra details may help..

What car?
Which model Alpine?
Does the Alpine use a "hide-away" control box?
Are you using a "plug & play" adapter harness?
Did you solder the connections, if not using an adapter?
Where/what have you connected the ground to?

Answer theses and give us any other info you may think relevant, and we will be able to help further

Run a new accessory wire and check any inline fuse holders on the ACC wire if it has any. It sounds as if you have a bad connection on the ACC and it's turning on/off over bumps etc. Also run a new ground to a metal part of the car, the same thing will happen if it's a bad ground but you will lose your radio station memory too if it was that.

car is 2005 holden rodeo space cab.
head unit is alpine IVA-D106E
all connections are soldered and heat shrunk
the ground is connected to the roll bar looking thing inside the dash

this system i have had in for about 3 years with no problems at all until now

i have run a new wire staight from the battery with an inline fuse, but still no good

this weekend i think i will pull all the trims out of the poor old thing and go over all the wiring, is it possible some of the wiring to the amps have given up maybe worn through and is shorting it out and the head unit is going into some sort or protection mode?? not sure just putting it out there

thanks

sounds very much like the acc wire.. either run a new one from somewhere (won't say where, cause I have no solid idea...)
that should fix the issue.. :/

When you say it's cutting out - be more specific... Does the screen on the HU go out too? I would be looking at 'the amps' (which you haven't given any details of!) as much as the possibility of a HU fault.

It's a long shot but check the pins in the plug in the back of the unit. One of them may have come loose or part of the way out. I have come across that problem before. Also try moving the acc wire onto the constant wire temporarily and see if it still drops out. At least that way you'll know if it is a problem with the car acc or the harness to the h/u.
