Hey guys the other day i was in jaycar and noticed they just got in these kevlar speakers. They are meant to be the same as there yellow cones they had same design in every way except now black.

Anyone tried these? Heard they are made elsewere now so i wanted to know if anyone has tried these and can confirm there quality is just as good as what i read about the yellow cones.

i put a pair of the 6x9s into a hiace the other day, they were just in prefab boxes in the back off the factory head unit but sounded pretty good, i havnt heard the old version of the 6x9s though only the 6.5s and 6s but they look very similar

My mate had 4 of these in his xf falcon, they get ubber loud and for what they cost and what they are, they sound really crystal clear and get really loud while they do it.... Also while getting around 100rms they get bassy, well enough for like rock and other music like that, Artist like young jeezy and other heavy bass song's tend to bottom them out abit...

but for a budget install or if your gonna use about 4 of them per door, then these are great, Sound exactly like the old yellow cone ones, except cooling has been beefed up along with what they say a stiffer black cone

Just what i wanted to hear guys thanks a bunch :)

I plan to high pass them at around 80hz and they will be getting a bit over 60w rms each driver so a total of 500w rms shared between 4 sets. Should be good to get me going. And hearing they can get loud is just what i'm after to compete with the 6 12's off a few kw till i go with some crazy fiberglass 10's down the track.

They seem like a good speaker for the dollar.

There are 2 more options in that price range.

Boston S65RC But the power handling im not keen on unless there underated.

Or

JBL GT5

But overall the Jaycars still seem ahead in terms of performance/quality. Not hearing any of these though makes it hard to say.

The yellow cone splits aren't really anything special. The tweeters are really average, woofers are great if you want the most (mid) bass possible out of door speakers, but above about 400Hz they are nothing to write home about. Depending where you mount the tweeters, the crossover doesn't provide enough attenuation for the tweeters. I put the tweeters on my dash and found i needed another -4dB or so ontop of the -6dB (labeled -3dB) provided by the crossover. Also the cone construction is uhm... interesting... in that they use a kevlar weave but there is barely enough resin to keep the weave from seperating (the cone is almost perforated) and the result is that the cone is more bendy than a paper cone.

FWIW, the coaxials sound better than the splits imo! The crossover on the coaxials, while basic, integrates the tweeter and the woofer very nicely indeed. It makes you wonder how they got it so wrong with the splits since they are basically the same tweeter/woofer...

If you wanted maximum bang (sound quality) for minimum bucks, and don't mind making your own crossover (or running active):

shipping is a killer, though they would easily out perform $250 splits, maybe even double that.

Yeh was the big reason i didn't go that route in the first place the shippings a killer, for $360 i can have 4 sets of the coax.
