Hi guys,
I've been lurking around these forums for several years now and have read and learnt a lot of interesting things from here!
A little about myself:
I love audio in general and started with a DIY system in my first car, a '91 Toyota Soarer where I learnt to install all my audio gear myself. Learnt to solder, splice and basically take apart a whole car from this project which was a lot of fun and a huge learning experience by reading stuff on this forum. Also had to learn to work on MDF which became my staple diet for weeks after having to chew through 2 sheets worth of failures!
Audio components:
Eclipse CD3200 HU
MB quart 6.5" premium splits fronts
MB quart 6.5" discus rears
Audison LRx 4.1k 4 channel amp
Unknown monoblock amp (inherited from previous owner)
Uknown Pioneer sub (inherited from previous owner)
After I dropped all my money on the new kit I was pretty broke so the initial install was completely DIY and I didn't even bother with sound deadening. Eventually I had the boys at Lifestyle audio help out with some bits of the installation that I wasn't able to handle. They were helpful and professional throughout and they were also the lot that sold me the gear.
My next car was a '98 Honda Prelude, only because the Soarer was written off =(. I transplanted all the gear into the Prelude, but I was a bit stuck with installing 6.5" speakers into the car since the front door panels are such a pain! Ended up enlisting the help of Marty (FHRX) to clean up my mess =P. Magic dust was sprinkled and my Prelude was sounding even more fabulous than the Soarer!
Ultimately my setup then shrunk to frontstage + sub powered off the LRx due to the fact that the monoblock suffered some damage in the accident and was stuffed. But it was a price worth paying for a system optimized for the size of the cabin (and depths of my wallet).
Now I am running a '05 Nissan 350GT, with the following kit that I took out of the Prelude (plus the unused discus rears) and a new addition from Lifestyle audio:
Eclipse CD3200 HU
MB quart 6.5" premium splits fronts
MB quart 6.5" discus rears
Audison LRx 4.1k 4 channel amp
Hertz HX250 subwoofer (amazing little sub, fantastic SQ and surprising SPL for the size!)
I did not bother trying to install on my own this time, this car is my pride and joy so I did not want to molest it at all! Unfortunately Marty is much too far away from me to practically take my daily driver down there and back (and also quite dear but you definitely get what you pay for with his mob), so I took it to Lifestyle audio again (they are down the road from me) to hook it all up.
The system is not yet complete, so I look forward to asking a ton of embarrassing questions and advice as well as contributing what little I can back to this awesome forum!
Cheers!
Stephen
