Hi All,

Putting together a system for a Pajero;

1. Use minimal amount of space i.e. build sub box into side and put amps somewhere out of the way
2. Needs to be clear and have plenty of mid-bass as well as not sounding to harsh or tinny with enough sound to fill the large cabin
3. Meet a moderate budget

So far we have decided on,

Head-unit - Mitsubishi MMCS not changable in this build
LLOC/Processor - Rockford 3sixty.2 or .3 if it makes it in time or maybe bit one but maybe out of budget
Front - Hertz HSK 165's up front with the possibility of the Mille ML28 tweeters if the HSK's are to harsh
Rear - stock
Sub - Undecided
Amp's - Undecided

Amplifier's options are;

Genesis profile Ultra four (Class G slightly longer)
Alpine F6 (Good but class D)
Audison LRX 2.500 (Fronts) & alpine pdx monoblock or even Genesis mono

So far we are leaning towards the Genesis for compactness, but I dont know much about the profile series ?

Sub
Hertz es300 maybe or a shallow mount

Hi Leviathan,

I am not the most experienced car-audio guy, but I am running a Gen 2 Pajero, so can help chip in if you have a specific question.

For your reference; I am running
3 way Fronts (Mid Bass in door; MidRange + Tweeter mounted on A-Pillar). - Soundstream RF-60C (i think?)
Rears = 6x9s - cut off @ 120Hz, 24dB
Sub = Ultimo 12; 1.8CF box
DSP = MS-8
The MS-8 treats the front as 2-way active (MR+Tw, linked by passive XOver).

I cant help with the choice of gear, because I havnt heard the Hertz products before.

What I can say is that even with the large cabin, this system is definitely "clear" and "non-tinny" and hits very decent listening levels.

Keep in mind 2 things.
Front Cabin is fully sound deadended.
Rear Cabin has storage drawers built in, therefore I have 2 subwoofers configs (for 2 diff boxes). To suit what is in the car storage.
#1 - On top of wheel arch in 1CF box and firing to rear side window. I personally dont like this configuration that much, and find the bass doesnt blend in smoothly. Even with dedicated EQ.
#2 - In centre of cabin space about 1" off base plate in 1.8CF box firing UPWARDS. This is much better configuration to me personally and blends seamlessly with front stage.

When i was tossing up the Ultimo 12, sales guy wasa thinking the Herts ES300 would be great on top of drawers firing into top corner, as the cubic volume requirement was quite small.

Hopefully that helps??

Do you remember doing my fathers first pajero many moons ago BIGW ? :)

Anyway, I have since started the installation but I am seeing some problems; looks like the molex crimps aren't making a good connection for the hi/lo convertor and the mids seem to be bottoming out very easily.

I'll post some pictures and I plan to check the amp gains/hi/lo gain and the minidsp filtering also getting some engine whine induced I think from the processor power supply.

Here's the system list so far,

Genesis profile 4 ultra amplifier
Hertz HSK165's 6" splits
Audio Control Hi/Lo LC-6 converter
MINI-DSP
4ga Cable kit
Some Stinger SD in certain places and service hole coverage with 6mm MDF

Do you know what speaker levels they tapped into for your system ? I have some pictures somewhere to confirm, I'll post some up soon. I want to get the mid's right first than, I will start on the sub ?

Do you have any pictures of your installation please mocsta ?

Hi leviathan.. i can have a look for some photos over the weekend.

I am not sure what you mean by speaker levels? Are you referring to the plug that goes into the deck? haha If so, thats dependant on the generation you have, i have the electrical schematics for the gen 2 pajero; but you have MMCS, which is a newer gen. The best sugestion is to go to the Pajero forum (http://www2.pajerocl...forum/index.php) . This is a great resource. In either the Gen3 section or electrical section, someone will have an old thread detailing what the speaker wires are!!

Leviathan! Just remembered who you were! Hope you are well!

I like the look of those arc mini amps, I'm chasing something with a small footprint for
the prado that will tuck under the seats, have a look at the stetsom 1k for a sub amp, it's tiny and makes some serious grunt!

The 3rd row seats folded down from the sides from memory, so we removed them and used the space underneath them.
