I have upgraded my sub amp from a bridged 2ch RF Punch 400s to a mono RF Punch 1001bd. However I now notice a turn on pop that I never noticed with the 400s. It is faint and sounds like someone giving a slight flick to the speaker cone with their fingernail.
The wiring was exactly the same configuration as for the 400s...and simply changed over to the 1001bd. I removed the rca cable input to the amp and still notice the pop. I also disconnected the the remote turn on lead from the Alpine head unit and while turned on with no music playing no rcas connected, touched it to the remote turn on terminal of the amp and heard a pop when the amp power light came on.
I have connected the 1001bd to another sub set up in another car and notice exactly the same thing and also noticed a turn off pop this time.
Is there something I can do or check to fix this? I have a feeling that any sort of turn on delay won't work and will only delay the pop. Doesn't my Alpine h/u already have a delayed/soft turn on? Thanks.

I think this is a common problem. Anyone know why it happens with some amps and not others (not considering cheap quality amps)

The answer relies on the head unit as well as the amplifier. Most amps have a turn on delay time and the head unit is turned off, it creates a "shut off" current to the amp which emits sound from the output source. Some amps have a soft turn on whilst others don't and it all comes down to build quality and obviously the price as well. I am running Precision power amps, (PC450 and PCX2125) amps, both clean amps but I still get this slight "power shut off" sound. It is not a loud pop but just a little sound similar to putting a AA battery across speaker terminals for a second.
I changed my head unit to an Alpine and the noise was gone. The head unit is mainly the culprit for inducing such noise through remote signal wire in my case. I strongly suggest you try out different head units and it may eliminate this issue for you, provided your sound system has a good ground, (amp, head unit, car as well).

I was informed by abuyahoo from here that installing a relay will remove this issue.

Yes, that is anoher way of delaying the "pop" noise is to separately switching the amp one and off so it delays the "voltage drop"
Try it if you want, or put a switch between the relay wires is another option.
Good luck mate!
