The situation is I have a ve ute which currently I am running a 2 ch amp via high level inputs. Being an 08 the loom does not have 4 channels of speaker cabling coming out of the head unit, only the two channels for the doors.
Now I have a mono waiting to go in also. I am hoping that if I connect the mono via high level input I can use the RCA passthrough to send signal to the 2ch. I have a funny feeling it will not be the case.
Failing that I could run a separate loc and then be guaranteed the RCA pass through would work but I would rather not have to. My other option is to run two sets of high level inputs in parallel off the factory speaker wires, however I am concerned that not knowing what the loads are on a high level input on an amp is that it may create a load too low for the factory head unit and damage it....

Any thoughts or input for my dilemma??

Thanks

Brad

You can run the other amp as you mention, it's the same as y-splitting RCA leads, you're using the speaker outs as signal in to the amps. The impedance load will be on the amps depending on the speakers you are using.

I understand the impedance load on amps in relation to speaker arrangement but what about the impedance load on the head units internal amplifier in regards to running two amps in parallel off the 2 channels coming out of the head unit via speaker level in on the amp?

input impedance on amps is ussually a very high figure (ie about 10Kohms) so they draw little current. I say you should be right to split the signal as per above.
I do suggest though that you instead put in an LOC close to the amps then RCA Y-split the output into the amps.

Just so you know the rear speaker output is still there. To turn it on just turn deck off--push track up and disc up and keep it pressed - push on button once and keep the other two buttons pressed for a while..you will see service appear. Scroll down to speaker and select 4/5 then turn off and on.
You just need to find the right pins in the plug going into the headunit(in other words the pins are empty, Holden just hasn't run any wire from them) and with the right little terminals you can just run the wires out of the plug.

Hope this helps
