Currently running a set of JBL GT5-2402BR in my VS Statesman but recently noticed the cone has come completely away from the extrusion rubber (dunno technical terms xD).. Looking at getting some new subs and was thinking either another set of twin 12's or a mental single 12 or 15?... what do you guys recommend? listen to all kinds of music Metal Rock RNB basically a mix of everything so i need a sub that will kick hard and get down low when needed. Probs looking at spending around $500-600. Any suggestions or help would be amazing thanks :D

There's many ways to skin a cat, so to speak, so you'll probably hear many opinions, all of which will be valid.

For loudness, the bigger the cone (surface area), the more air it can 'push', so a 15" will be louder than a 12", all else being equal. And choosing between a 'sealed' or 'ported' box (the two most common designs), ported is much loud/'lower' because it's a more efficient design. So it can make sense to go with a 15" sub that suits a ported box, and have a ported box built to the right specs for that sub.

One of your limitations is 'budget'. Whilst it's decent, it's not open-slather. So then you are faced with 'a cheaper 15" sub vs a higher quality 12" sub', and 'custom designed subbox vs prefab'. It can become very confusing very easily, because some higher quality 12s will easily outperform a cheap 15. And a high quality ported subbox can cost you $600 to have designed and built (your whole budget). I would also stick with 'one better sub' than have 'two cheapies'.

Good 'all round' subs include the Image Dynamics IDQ12v3 (or you may find a secondhand big boy IDMAX12), and the JL Audio 12W6v2. Both are very versatile, and suit either sealed or ported boxes, and can produce loud and accurate subbass.

Shop around. Maybe go and see the guys at Northfield Moorooka, who offer a good range of subs, have extensive knowledge/experience, and do great installations.
