Hi all,

Just chasing some advice on a planned install for my 2010 MN Triton dual cab... Did some searching around here and it seems most similar setups were a bit bigger than what I plan to do so thought I will ask my own question!

Anyway, after doing some digging I have decided that I want to replace my front speakers only, and look at a slimline sub. So far I've been around a few shops and read some reviews on here and other sites which are helping me along. I mainly listen to metal / hard rock (Think Lamb of God, Parkway Drive, Machine Head, Deftones, Slayer etc etc)...

I was initially looking at getting four speakers and a sub, but on advice I got told to keep the stock rear speakers, and pour the money into fronts instead.

Was looking at Focal 165A1's for the fronts, and now leaning towards the Morel Dotech Ovation 6's - Heard some briefly and they sound good!
Another speaker suggested to me by a shop was the AVI XL160? I'm unsure what to choose as both can be had around the $600 mark...

For the sub I am looking at a Focal BUS25, or the IBUS20 when released here... I want a slim sub because of ease of fitting into my truck - Looking at under a seat or behind the rear seats, mounted to the rear wall of the truck?

I've been told that I'm wasting my time with the speakers unless I get a decent amp. Now I have no intention of having the stereo so loud I can be heard in the next postcode, and just want something simple but quality to power the speakers enough for decent volume and clarity. Suggestions? I've had an Audison SR4 suggested for $499, but to be honest I'd like to get something cheaper if it's going to do the same job? The other thing I wanted to know (As if its not obvious enough I have no idea what I'm doing yet) is how many channels do I need for the amp? Is there any issue with having the rear speakers run by the head unit and the new splits and sub running off the amp? Do I need a special amp to run the sub, or do I need to do anything special to it to set it up? How many watt amp do I need??

Also I am considering a head unit from Pioneer's new range when its released, but wouldn't mind getting started on the rest of the setup now.... (Makes the financial pain not as great for now!!). Oh and Budget for speakers / amp I am probably prepared to hit $1500 if need be, but would REALLY like to keep it as cheap as possible.

Anyway, thanks in advance!

Hey.

I'm not familiar with the details of the interior of the Triton, so I can only speak from general principles.

AVI is an uncommon brand, but definitely good. As is Morel, of course.

You can also get some ideas from Damons review of speakers in this price category: http://www.mobileele...view_under_600/

There could be 'depth' limitations for door speakers; not sure.

The Focal solutions are meant to be very reasonable if space is a premium. I suppose you need to measure up any potential space that can fit a sub, and roughly calculate how big a subbox you can fit (and presuming you can safely install a sub there, with appropriate attachments to hold it solidly in place).

Those Focal subs are 'active' setups, meaning they have inbuilt amplifiers. Hence, you would only need to add a 2-channel amp to run the front speakers. Only if you go with a normal (passive) sub, you'd need a 3-/4-channel amp, which can run the sub too.

For nice quality amps, you could therefore look at the Audison SR2, or Focal SOLID2. Also amps from DLS, Boston Acoustics, Arc Audio, JL Audio, etc.

Or, for space efficiency, maybe have a look at class D or H amps. Alpine PDX, Arc Audio XDi, JL Audio XD, etc.

For your needs, an amp capable of 50WRMS per channel for speakers, and 200WRMS for a sub, should be ample.

If you're dealing with Marty and the crew at Fhrx Studios, then you'll receive excellent advice and service, so they'll tailor the system to your needs and budget.

I'm reasonably familiar with most of the current Mitsu range of vehicles and have a very good visual memory.

As with the Lancer, the Triton has a rather decent amount of space behind the door trim so there is little difficulty fitting most speakers in there. The Triton's also run the same speaker as the Lancer from the factory so most 6.5" will fit.
