Hey guys recently I installed a set of componant speakers (polk db 6501 splits (100w rms) running off a pa330 amp (75w rms per channel)) in my car and wired them up like this.

I took the stock speaker wire from the head unit, wired it into the crossover and then wired the crossover to the woofer using the included wire (18 gauge I think) and then at the other end I took the stock speaker wire that used to be in the head unit and wired it up to some I'm not certain but I think 16 gauge speaker wire and wired the other end of that into the aplifier. so basically my wire goes Crossover 16-stock-16 amplifier.

The only reason we didn't replace the stock speakers was because I'm completely new at this and my friend who installed the speakers didn't really take wire size into account I don't think.

So my question is since the stock wires will be annoying to get to (removing door panel ect) will putting thicker wire in that one spot actually make a difference and if so what would the difference be? e.g. louder, better quallity?

And I was also wondering if 16 gauge speaker wire is thick enough or what the best size to use would be?

Oh just in case you're wondering (although i'm sure you all are aware of how thin it is) the stock speaker wire looks like string....

short lengths of thinner wire won't make a noticeable difference in a basic system such as yours.

Alright thanks :) It's quite a bit of effort to replace the wires running through the door grommits from what I've been told so if it won't make a difference I won't bother :)

Put the length of the stock wiring and your amplifier power into the calculator below and see how much difference it will make. Even with 200Wrms on my fronts in my last car the stock wiring (from kick panel to inside door) would have only lost 3-4W which is not even audible.

Thanks for the link. Not %100 sure on the exact measurements and such but it's going to be a tiny bit not worth changing the wires for, probably better off getting a better amp that will give the speakers 100w rms instead of 75w.
