Hey all,

I've come to ask your assistance with purchasing a sub that's rated to handle 1000RMS. I've got an Alpine MRD-M 1000 amp and I'd rather not turn my DD1512 inside out with it.

What would you all suggest, I've been wanting to get a JL 13W7 for years, now,but looking at prices and it looks like they seem to be over priced for their handling.

Thanks in advance!

I could prattle off brands and prices of subs that will take 1000wrms, but you don't give the 1512 enough credit.

Yes, it won't take 1000wrms continuously, but for music it still should be fine; provided if it's the dual4ohm version, you notch the gains back a little.

It's an SVC 1512. That 1512 is the one I was asking about the recone in another thread. It's got a split in the surround and the cone material has a fiar rip in it.

I'm almost considering a JL 10w7. I've found one on eBay for $578. AU inc shipping.

I'm sure you can do much better than w7's. ID idmax & Morel Ultimo, Arc Audio Flatline for SQ... Vibe Space/Black death, Cadence beastmasters locally... Maybe you can find a 2nd hand DD either 2512 or 3512, RE XXX...

Actually, what I am really looking to do with said sub is put it into a 4th order bandpass box for my VL wagon :)

Any suggestions for subs that won't mind being in a tiny sealed box? * Something that won't pole itself to death with that sort of power going into it.

did you want it in a 4th order bandpass or a small sealed box? IDMAX for sealed, JBL W series for bandpass

The only excuse for passive crossovers is their low cost. Their behavior changes with the signal level dependent dynamics of the drivers. They block the power amplifier from taking maximum control over the voice coil motion. They are a waste of time, if accuracy of reproduction is the goal.

4th order bandpass boxes traditionally have teeny tiny sealed sections; ergo, the subwoofer needs to be capable of operating in such confines without poling itself to bits.

Ok, found a DD 2515 on eBay for ~$375 AUD shipped. Good price? Worth it? What are peoples' thoughts?

Cheers guys!

The point of this install is for looooooooooooooow hitting bass. ie box tuned to low 30s kinda thing. So an 18" would be good, however I want something suited to 1000WRMS, rather than something I'll be wanting a bigger amp for down the track. (I know I will, it's too damned expensive to be thinking of right now lol)
