I'm looking to get a new processor to replace the alpine pxa-H100 and nakamichi ec302 crossover in my car already. I'm Running 3 way active plus sub, each pair of speakers have their own dedicated amp (Mids, tweeters, midbass, rears, sub) Not worried about the rears though as they're faded out for comps anyway.

Tossing up between the H800 or the bitone. I can get them both for about the same price, under $750 locally. Is this a good price? Seems pretty reasonable to me going off the RRPs. I don't want to buy overseas coz a) I'd rather support the local guys, b) warranty/service and c) I'm impatient and don't want to wait :P

So far I'm swayed towards the H800 due to:

* Already running an alpine head unit and stacker over ai-net, so less cabling to run etc.
* Ability to use the head units volume control rather than a seperate controller like the bitone.
* A lot of people seem to have noise issues with the bitone. I currently have no noise issues with the setup in the car at the moment.

To start with I'd be using a laptop or caprc to control/tune it, then if I go with the h800 maybe add the rux controller later when I find somewhere to mount it. I think the screen is resizable with the alpine tuning software, whereas the bitone isnt, meaning I could use the carpc to control it on the 7" touchscreen.

Can anyone give me any other reasons to go with either?

between those 2, H800 hands down

more flexible and will integrate better with alpine HU and stacker

It has to be the H800.. instant compatibility with the headunit.

Not been able to resize the Bit-One screen resolution is an absolute PITA (I use a 10" Toshiba for tuning purposes and lose the bottom 1/3 of the B1 interface screen, ok on my 19" laptop but I don't use it for the B1!)

Both great processors, but Alpine for compatibilty

now FCA sits back with popcorn and wonders how long before MAS Andrew takes to mention the ARC PS8 :pp

If we're talking about processors which are available in Australia to purchase right now (I see what you did there Mark ;) ) I'd get the H800. The JBL MS-8 is still a good processor as well, it's slipped by the wayside in most people's conversations for some reason?

I think the MS-8 gets overlooked as it has been grossly under-marketed here in Australia (the current distributor almost still doesn't know it's available!), and the ones that have brought one in have had troubles with theirs.

From your criteria, certainly the H800 is your solution.
The PS8 from Arc Audio is certainly anticipated, but as known, not actually available yet and won't offer the same integration as the H800 will in your application.

What are you waiting for .... go shopping! :)

I suppose you're right about the MS-8. There is a lot to be learnt commercially from car audio processors in the last ~3 years...

About 6 hours and 20 minutes worth.. but now that you've stuck your head in, I can stop.

So which processor would you recommend from the choices above, Andrew?
( I bet this has been eating at you all day.. :pp )

:)

Not exactly true Jamie.. lol
We talked about doing other things first, before deciding if you needed a processor.
How did your experiments go anyway?

The new Mosconi piece looks pretty good, and small too.
Like Marc said too, the MS8 shouldn't be ruled out depending on what the intended use is.
I think by the initial comments, the H800 is favoured over the BitOne because of noise and Alpine - Alpine compatibility.

The PS8 is going through final testing ATM
If you can wait a little, there will be 5 processors to choose from.
