Hi guys

I'm a newbie here and hoping an alarm installer can help me sort out this problem.

I just fitted a M60S alarm to my 1979 P6 LTD (the old Rolls Royce type front end that came out in 1976 to 79) but can't work out how to connect the (-) door trigger wire from the alarm to the door switch. The door switches have two wires (one green, one black with blue stripe). I believe the green is constant power and the black/blue is the earthing side. If I connect the trigger wire to the door switch, it will only activate the alarm after you close the door if you arm it with the door open (tried it by pressing the switch in, then arming, then releasing switch to make sure it wasn't the shock sensor).

I've tried using a relay but no success - (Do I have to put a relay one every switch - including the boot?)

Can anyone shed any light on this? Have tried the two methods above but no change (even tried swapping the trigger and output sides)..

I really don't want to have to run wires and install a single earth type switch (like the bonnet switch) to all four doors and the boot as well.

I managed to get everything else working fine, central locking (courtesy of rhino kit), auto windows up, immobilisers, bonnet - everything but the bloody doors and boot!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

The problem is that the door triggers are positive trigger. You will need to use a relay to swap from positive on the switch to negative to the alarms door wire. Get a relay and join pin 87 to the alarms door wire, pin 30 to earth, pin 85 to the blue/black wire and pin 86 to earth. 87a is not used.

Thanks
Will give that a shot over the weekend. I guess I will also have to do the same for the boot trigger switch (Or should I just tap into the solitary wire to the light globe - the globe holder grounds to the chassis)? Incidentally, the boot trigger wire for the alarm is also the bonnet trigger (which in hindsight answers my question I think, lol)

Hi mate,

The boot more then likely will still be negative trigger so it should be right to just tap straight on to the bonnet wire or door negative wire which ever you wish to choose, only difference will be the tamper trigger section reporting function.

Best to use diodes to isolate between sectors though. ie: diode between the bonnet and boot on the same wire so that if the bonnet pin plays up it doesn't trigger the boot light and drain your battery.

Kind Regards,

Whatever you do don't just tap into the boot wire and then join that to the bonnet wire, it will create a dead short. The boot trigger is also positive trigger so you will have to use a second relay and wire it the same way as the door. Then you can use two diodes with the band ends facing the source to split each pin switch to the alarm. Both non-band ends go to the alarms boot/bonnet input.

Yipes yes make sure you test it first with a multi-meter or test light, if its positive just join it with the door wires and use diodes as Sphell mentioned.

Here is good information about using diodes in alarms:

Thanks Guys

Doors are now armed and working fine on the alarm.

As the boot is also positive trigger (same as doors), I have decided to connect the boot to the alarm's door wire using a separate relay for the boot. Will I also have to use a diode? If so, is there any particular diode I need to use?

OR can I just connect the boot switch's negative wire to the door switch wire between the switch and door relay using a diode?

Did you check the installation instructions to see if there was a pin jumper inside the alarm module to change the door wire from negative switch to positive switch? I know with some mongoose alarms that can be done. Would have been easier than wiring relays

Yeah, the instructions did say Jumper J1 select + or - for door polarity.
However, with my limited/intermediate knowledge of electronics, I didn't want to open the module in case I stuffed something up. Also wouldn't know what to look for inside.
Is it just a little slide switch or something, and is it labelled J1? Would be handy to know for next time.

Hi xxxrsixen,
it`s factory set to - negative, but you can just pop off the cover and check , you won`t stuff anything as it`s a well built unit.
Give it a go, it will give you a confidence boost just by trying! Then the sky is the limit after that ,all up hill from there.
Next you will be installing car stereo gear....
