Cause-related viral marketing is a magical thing, quite amazing. But yep, Bobo is right, spread it round!

Good on you mate! No doubt the video was spun in such a way to help create such a viral outcome, but the essence of the problem is still there.

its amazing all the war crimes that happen in northern africa. basically america saying "its not our problem" until the people rebel and protest is whats happening all over the place. ignorance is bliss for some subjects, but for things like this, it cant be swept under the carpet.

I wouldn't support with money (just me) I've just done way too much reading/research into it, I don't have the capacity to write it all out now, but it's been spun to make the campaign more effective.

tl;dr version? or is the it's been spun to make the campaign more effective the tl;dr version?
(tl;dr = too long; didn't read)
I've been seeing a bunch of people on facebook saying it's not worth it and such. example of one:

Oh, you want to vandalize a town to raise awareness of a man who hasn't done anything in the past 2 years, because a 'not-for-profit' organization that only spends 37% of their profits helping people, and that spent $200,000 on a pointless video told you to? You're such a humanitarian.

But yeah, I haven't really read into it much... haven't done anything though

There we go... Been having some arguments on another forum about it, but didn't have solid facts.. was going off what somebody else said.

Seems like the way to go is donate to unicef or something.

One of my friends dad has done a lot of missionary work in Uganda building schools, community buildings and other projects.
He's by no means a rich man - but a man willing to get in on a grass roots level and help where he can.
I think this campaign has done a LOT to raise awareness of the issue. I watched a nearly 3 hour doco on the issues in Uganda and Sudan.

My sister who is a school teacher had a sudanese boy in her class who had watched his own father (along with several others of his family) get hacked to death with a machette in front of him. This was a kid in grade 1...
Now dont get me wrong, I dont believe that you can blame who you are today on what your past has been and I certainly dont condone migrants bringing issues from their old life to their new country, but you can see why there are issues in some migrant communities when you hear of stories like that. Thats bound to affect your mental health, reasoning, morals etc.

I think the issue with this campaign is the money issue - I'm sure things are done with the right intentions but I think people should definately look into charities before handing over money. There are plenty of other NPOs out there doing good work in Uganda (and many other nations with similar issues). Plenty of non-relgious affiliated programs and plenty that are church affilitated (now I come from a church going family, my sister and her husband lead a church here in melbourne and do a lot of missionary trips. But I STRONGLY suggest any one looking to support a church, or religion, affiliated NPO to really look into the ties. Some of these ties are very loose at best.)
I also think that you should be wary of NPOs with high over heads but not put off by them. Throwing money willy nilly at nations creates more problems than it solves and often organisations need to spend money to make sure that their money is being properly spent and put to good use. Obviously there needs to be a balance.

Its good to see this issue out in the light - but dont forget that these issues arent just happening in uganda. parts of indonesia, philippines, columbia, etc all have similar type issues. Possibly on smaller scales but the issues remain none the less.

I'm with you. I think it is a worthwhile cause. Whether he is active now or not he is a war criminal that is responsible for the capture and enslavement of tens of thousands of children and the death of many other people and should be brought to justice for his crimes. However I believe donating to the invisible children is not the best way to achieve this. I also believe that if the us and other governments are going to intervene, they can't stop at Kony and also need to make sure the government is overhauled in the process.

Fix'd... apparently he's been dying somewhere for a number of years, and hasn't done anything like stealing kids for years...
But yeah, this is true, we need to fix our economy first, before we worry about somebody who hasn't done anything bad in many years....
