Probably the best thing about the comp was the fact that most of the people who entered are not even on this forum - which means new blood and interest is out there.
Throw up some ideas about how we can get these guys and girls signed up and logging on to MEA so the only thing on peoples mouths when they think of adding a sub to there .. commodore or falcon is " when is the next bass battle?!.

At a meet your there getting the scores and having fun without politics....
It's not a rule but an observation all the same...it's always gotta be about making people welcome and sharing common interests regardless of knowledge or budget , thats got to be the best for growth in my opinion.

Fair and welcome opinion, however I just want to ensure that it is qualified, as in my experience of essentially the two official BASS Battle Victorian rounds so far, the above was absolutely not present or obvious, at least to me anyway.

Anyway awareness is something we need to raise about spl competition in Australia to start with. Unfortunately the majority of car enthusiasts (being the main target audience) don't know that such a competition even exists, everyone can do their part even as simply as telling their friends about it at cruises or posting a link on facebook etc... I regularly post info about it online and get a bit of interest from it.
It is also important to make sure people don't think this is only a place for car audio, there is also a very strong social aspect of the MEA community that every single person is encouraged to experience.

This is so true, I enjoy the social side just as much as the audio side. I have met so many great people thanks to MEA most of which I would probably even make time for in my every day social life
We got such a variety of questions from people at the Narre Warren event; "What should I expect from my system?", "How do these events work?", "What if I don't know anything about car audio?". They were all so eager, this was a new experience for alot of them and after the success of last night I think we will be seeing all their smiling faces again and again.
There were also alot of spectators seeing their friends signing up, asking questions and watching them compete who commented on how they too would like to come to the events and compete with their own cars.
I think the friendly social environment will definitely help in getting people eager to explore this forum and keep in touch with everyone they meet. The eagerness for each competitor and their possy's to learn was amazing!! Business cards and flyers would be a fantastic addition to the events as it is just that little bit of extra help we can give these eager learners!!

awareness... i think you've struck an exceptionally important key point there... i've been going over alot of other automotive based shows lately and what goes into making them so successful, and exposure is one that is simply undeniable... the way they're marketed is unbelievable, but alot of that is money...
there's a few examples of very well marketed shows/events, that i could see haven't just had buckets of money poured into them, relying more on viral marketing, but they can take a long time to get off the ground, much better for marketing a brand instead an individual show, and i think we're already on the right path, we just have to keep up the efforts on that front, i've been seeing more and more youtube videos come up 2day from last nights event, so that aspect of viral markettng is right up there...

Hey guys well how Huge was the NARRE WARREN event.. ?

I would treat it a bit like fishing, you go out and catch as many as you can and out of 100 fish you might get five or six keepers.
That is to say out of every 100 new people you can get to compete you should be aiming to have 5 or 6 become long turn members of the forum.
This can be done a number of way but one way that I have always been a fan of is "bring a buddy", how this could work is by lets say leading up to the next event regular competitors are encouraged to bring along a mate who has competed in no more then one MEA sound off comp before, when the mate signs up to compete the regular competitor receives half price entry for that event.
This should ensure that there is enough people at every event to make it a lock out on entrent numbers and will also bring new competitors to events who might just get interested in the whole scene and MEA.
just a thought
Dean.

lol^^^ you get stuck with the old logo...
I was not stuck with it, I chose it!! lol ..... I am however stuck with the incorrect colour for the background!! lol fix this NAO!
"bring a buddy"
The "bring a buddy" system is a fantastic idea, even if it doesn't offer perks, it is something that is used in any situation to double a crowd and has fantastic results!!
Everybody wants to bring a friend and all people are competitive, just knowing which mate is louder is reason enough for people to include a +1

Still a very good idea.
Maybe people can throw up a list of different car enthusiast (not hoon/burnout) events that they know of that we might be able to contact in order to advertise MEA through either flyers/business cards or even have some demo cars show off what it's all about?

i couldn't agree more!! MOAR GIRLS!!
the only issue is that this seems to be a very much Male orientated sport, how could we push for further female involvement...? any suggestions...?
perhaps sir blanket and i could wear short shorts to bring in the female clientel...?

I'd prefer to see you and Blanket in skirts, short shorts is just a fashion but skirts, then theres no confusion of whether you're girls or not
I opened up a topic for more female competitors discussion so that we can keep this thread on topic of more competitors all round :]

Marc if you have any MEA merch sitting at home waiting to be sold maybe setting up a stall will get people buying and then jumping on the forums just from owning a top?

I like this idea but I think it would be more efficient to just advertise with the upcoming event that there will be some of these items for sale (ofcourse if marc has any available) cause if people buy them and where them outside of the comps it could get people talking. Also Phatt would be a good place to sell them as they always seem to have stuff like beanies etc for sale too.Another thing everyone was asking about at the last comp was if we were selling hoodies and t's

Unless ofcourse this is what you meant lol it sounds like you are suggesting a stall at some random place???

haha no i mean a stall at the comps!! it would be kind of strange to just be selling them at a random stall somewhere nothing to do with car audio lol.
just having merch available at the comp when people are paying entry im sure would make a few sales and like Preston said, get them talking

Not giving a crap tends to play a big role. At the end of the day you just put whatever equipment gives you the most enjoyment for the coin spent in your car. Plus, it is more fun getting the cheap/'wrong' brands to perform well, and adds flavour to the event.unfortunately..not being a forum member sometimes is helpful..as there is a little bit of elitist attitude still about in the forums, and if you have the "wrong brands" you may get shunned...
I could not think of anything more boring than buying the same headunit/amps/speakers as someone elses already "proven" car.

Seeing as its an olympic year how about a MEAOlympics?
I was thinking each State has a comp or several(SPL and SQ) and the points / scores get put towards a national "olympic champ" for each class and possibly combined.
I know there are already comps for both but promoting a special Olympic series might spark new interest from people who dont currently compete.
Especially if areas that dont have regular comps get a chance. Ideas?

i like this idea but we already have points accumulation for SQ but it would be good to get them going for spl too. just curious but could there be some legal issues with using the name "olympics"?While watching TV this morning I had an idea (maybe dumb but here goes)

I would really love more comps in areas that dont get them..... I am sure there are members in parts of WA, NT and even rural NSW and QLD who never get a go.
Speaking for NSW I know comps are splintered and MEA does seem to dominate in VIC. A widely publisized combined comp on the Central Coast could get Sydney and Newcastle involved.
(sorry Wollongong people ) OR have small comps in most towns with a centralised scoring system. (entrants permitting) Maybe a thread on here with scores from each town as we go........

perhaps other area's need ppl other than MARC to run events in these places ..i think it's hard for Marc to spread himself any thinner , but i'm sure he'd be keen for others to help fly the flag.?! I know in vic for regional guys there is some travel involved but ,you have to go where the majority of interest is at..but eiher way making it grow is what it's all about
I fully agree but would want his blessing if its involved / affiliated with MEA and we going to promote MEA.
