Hi,

Looking at an amp to power 85wrms boston 5" speakers and a 300wrms sub. The amp will power 2x100wrms for the front and 300wrms bridged for the sub. But the amp sells for $180 new so not too sure its the best. Are there any other suggestions for an amp similar to this? Of will this be fine??

The LW4.300 of course retails at $349, so factor that into the 'quality'.

For RRP$499, I'd probably get an Arc Audio XDi804 or Audison SR4.

In terms of value, the Soundstream probably wins hands-down for $180.

:)

Thanks shiny,

Do you think it will be good enough for the Boston speakers and sub?? Or it will work just fine??

What model Boston speakers and sub? Generally, I would be matching entry level gear with entry level gear; but if your speakers are SPZ series with SPG555 sub then...

In terms of clarity, the SS amp will be as good as you'd need. Of course, you could do with more power on tap for the sub, even for headroom/reserve. But the SS still offers more than enough for decently loud subbass.

Compared with the Arc Audio or Audison, the SS is easily better value at $180. The Arc/Audison won't sound/perform better; they just offer higher pedigree. Counts for nothing if you're on a tight budget.

Ultimately, you go with a monoblock for the sub, and multichannel for the speakers. So you can add a monoblock in the future if you want to upgrade.
Just determine now/upfront, if the SS is an amp you'd expect to keep for years to come, say for the next car/stereo. If not, then save and/or spend on the amp that would be a 'keeper'. I personally have no loyalty or desire to own SS gear, but plenty of people do; whereas I do like Arc and Audison gear.

:)
