I am always on the lookout for strange things so I just wondered if any of you good people knew of any different types of speaker over the normal cone diaphram type we all know and use.

I know there have been a few companies that have used a rotary style woofer but that is about all I can find in regard to weird speaker designs. Eminent Technologies were looking at releasing an 8" rotary woofer for car use buy it sadly never happened-http://www.eminent-t...com/randd2.html

If you haven't read about their home theater sub it is pretty nuts, 110 Db at 1Hz- http://www.eminent-t...comparison.html

Electrostatic

Ribbon

Plasma

PG's Cyclone

Forgot Tactile technologies. (ie using tactile sensory products to turn any solid surface into a radiating/reverbrating (ie sound) one) Its still pistonic, but there is merit in that its almost electrostatic meets conventinal pistonic type of adaptation. Youtube Tactile speakers.

Wow I'd heard of the PG sub but damn that is a really strange beast-

I should have listed ribbon, I have some of them, oops.

Does plasma make any useable output?

Also, carbon condenser speakers, as used in old telephones. not high output, not really rugged, but they work and are cheap. good for high impedance circuits (aka valves)
