Hi All
New to this forum and this is my first post. Doe anyone have any experience with the Sony XEC-1000 crossover. I have one and plan to build my system around it. I will be attaching 4 amps to it 2 x Peerless 8inch subs MB Quart Q series splits and a set of Sony 4 inch mids the 4 ways will each have its own amp all attached to the XEC-1000. Any suggestions on how to tune/calibrate this beast.

Hey dude....I'm using one at the moment. It will be usless for the 4-ways considering it would tune each speaker/channel separately. That includes tweeters, mids, subs and the like. May I suggest, get rid of the 4-ways and buy a set of splits to run off the xover. That way you will be able to use it to its fullest.

Give that a go and see where you end up.

Enjoy

Hi Guys, seems I did not explain what I am considerein very well. I do not have 4 way speakers. I have 2 Peerless 8 inch subs, a set of MB Quart 51/2 inch Q series splits , a set of Sony 4 inch mids. so it will be essentially a 3 way system. Considerein mounting the MB's and the sony mids in the front doors and the peerless in the rear. The XEC-1000 can have 5 amps connected so with mine have 1 for the subs 1 for the mids and one each for the tweetere and MB woofers. By the way the vehicle is a 1989 VW Caravelle.

I don't think there's a need for the sony 4" - the MB's running off the front outputs and the peerless off the sub outputs will work fine.

That would take care of the front however this is a big vehicle so perhaps the sony 4 inch and another set of tweeters in the rear I have plenty of room as I have removed all the factory seats (7) and installed recaro's up front and 2 more recaro's in the rear.

Luckyphil - It was not that hard to set up. Nor, was it very easy. There is a lot of fiddle farting around to get the best sound out of all the channels. I have had it installed in my car now for about 18months and I am still making small tweaks every now and then cos it sounds a bit funny in certain spots.

The only tip I can give to you when setting it up is to clean your ears and concentrate. Also, take your time. You will not be able to tune it in 1 hour, well I couldn't anyway.

Good luck
Tony

These are very highly regarded SQ-wise and still fetch huge money on Ebay USA.
Also, they are very easy to disassemble. I had to resolder some RCA connections as too much force had been applied by the former owner.
