I've bought the pair of black painted supremos from YT1987.

What is the best way to prepare them for paint to match my custom A pillars (VT commodore) will i need to sandblast them or a simple roughen up with some fine grit sand paper. Also would it make a difference if i texture finish them or have full gloss/2pac
I want to make sure that im not going to effect the sound by paiting them.

If you want to use a texture you don't need to be to pedantic with the prep work. Are you wanting 2 pack colour or a single pack colour and 2 pack clear? If your using 2 pack colour you will probably need a 2 pack primer, if using a single pack colour a single pack primer will suffice.

What material is the faceplace? If its Aluminium, you can just use an Etch Primer or Killrust Heavy Duty Primer (my favorite) in a spray can, then no sanding will be required just a wipe over with Wax & Grease Remover.

If they're already painted, why not grab a can of paint stripper and use that, once it's all off a scourer would roughen things up fine for a primer.

FWIW, a gloss finish compared to a texture coating DOES stand to make a difference in terms of diffraction, you will only know how much of a difference once you've done it...

I didn't read that they are already painted. Do you know what the paint is that is already on there?

If its Acrylic which is doubtful then you can pretty much spray straight over it as long as the paint on there is of sound condition.

If its an Acrylic Lacquer or Enamel you can only spray the same type over the top without any issues.

If I were you how ever I was ensure the current paint is smooth, if not rub it back with some 320-400grit wet paper, hit it with a good solid coat of Killrust Heavy Duty Primer (only if it goes back to bare metal), then top coat it with a single pack colour whether it be Acrylic, Acrylic Lacquer or Enamel. Two pack how ever will dissolve the single pack primer/paint.

I would bet $10000 no one could pick the difference between textured and non-textured (yes, even Muzzy's ears *kidding Muzz*) finish on the plate.

Thanks guys! it looks like they were painted using a can of black spray paint from bunnings. I think for piece of mind I might give them to Mark (FCA) and let him paint them for me. Either way he will be doing the A Pillars and it would be good to have them painted the exact same finish/colour.

Totally agree with you there Dan!
that's the reason i had my cdm54 grilles painted, to match the pillars, especially being a large black face..
