Hey Guys my name is Jayden, i'm 17 and from Melbourne.
I am just starting my first build which will hopefully have a:

Option Audio OA12XTM11 - 1250w rms DVC 2ohm sub ($300)
[can be bridged to 1ohm]
HiFonics HFi1500d - 1500w rms 1ohm stable sub ($200)
Posted Image

I turn 18 in a few weeks so i thought i would get my system ready now.
It will be going in a Mitsubishi Lancer VRX for the moment, with a JVC-KDR-316 Head Unit.

What are your opinions on the sub/amp combo for the money?
And does anyone know how much it would cost for me to get a box made for it (Subwoofer) ?

Plus in my room i'm running:
Clarion VNet 2100 - 300w rms Amp
Boss Audio BA-1000 - 1000w max amp (probably like 250w rms)
VDO Dayton/Phillips XBass 12" Sub
Rockford Fosgate Punch XLC 12" - 250w rms 4ohm

Thanks, Jayden

depends where you go and what sort of finish your after for the sub box, give some of the victorian MEA approved retailers a call, the are all very experienced at this sort of thing and will be able to give you a price.

if your handy with basic power tools though you could try to make one yourself, mdf is cheap and with the appropriate dimensions (which many users on here can provide depending on music style you listen to) you can get great results with basic woodworking skills

I don't really have that many powertools at home and i'd rather leave it to someone who knows how to tune the box properly.
I listen to Hip-Hop music so i'm guessing it would have to be ported to suit that kind of bass.

Hi Jayden, welcome to the forums mate!

To answer your first question, the gear you have is nice bang-for-buck stuff.

Your subwoofer box, would be approximately $350-$400 to get made, depending on your trim. A word of caution though, the OA Extreme's have a history of failing, and are'nt tolerant to abuse. They need an excellent box design, and a gentle touch to safely keep them going. This is my experience from 3 friends who've had the same woofers, and blown them due to abuse.

Do you think it would be better to get 2 of the Elevation Audio Sqx subwoofers in the picture above?
It's just that the Option Audio Sub's i've heard hit pretty hard, and it's seems good for the money

Two subs have a definate cone area advantage over the one OA Extreme.

Realize though, you've got to chew more of your boot/hatch (not sure what your car is?) space up, and ultimately a little more expensive box.

BUT, if you're listening to hip hop/rnb/dubstep, it's a better move.

You should be fine cutting MDF with a jigsaw with the right type of blade, providing youre making a square/rectangle box. Im not sure what pro installers do, but the last couple boxes I made, I used kwik grip to stick them together and sealed the inside edges with PVA glue, that should be more than sufficient to achieve a decently built box. Make sure to use the right type of screws and predrill a hole before drilling the screws in

PVA to join your raw MDF ends and pre-drilled countersunk holes for your screws. Seal joins with Sikaflex (or any polyurethane sealer) and if you are going to port it... find out what tuning point you need and have a tuning port calculated for you :)

my mate who had a 15" t5 Soundstream as well as previously a 15" Type R, was telling me that 2x12 CVR's would be sufficient for me.
i know kickers can be loud, but are they boomy and produce nice lows?
he also said he'll keep an eye out on subs for me, as he works at a car audio shop.

HAve you listened to a Morel 12" yet? The Primo will impress you bang for buck and depth. The Ultimo will have you reaching for the credit card. Just my 2 bob.

Slideways, i have'nt had the opportunity to build or hear a custom enclosure for CV-R's, only sealed, though they were fine as a daily driving sub in that application.

If you can get them, i'd still take the SQx's over CV-R's.

Morel Primo's are a nice little woofer for the price, but IMO need a good, low tuned ported enclosure to really shine. Two Ultimo SC's would make a sweet daily driving setup.

So i made my first step towards a soundsystem. Be aware i'm on my Maccas pay and get my P's in 2 weeks.
I purchased and installed a pair of 6.5" Alpine Type G splits myself (into an existing 5" 1/4 speaker slot) which i made fit, barely though.
only thing is now i need either a 2 or 4 channel amp to get the most out of it.
it's rated at 70w RMS and can handle up to 280w Peak and is CEA certified. i picked them up for $160
and my headunit only puts out 50w max x 4

What headunit are you running. If you want to amp the speakers, you need at least 2 preouts. Im not a fan of splitting preouts as this cuts the output voltage.

Start playing 30hz on these things, they just won't take it long term. And it's not just one sub, three different people i know have had them failed.

in the box by option audio i have a feeling 30hz is below there tuning freq. as it starts flapping uncontrolably i have my subsonic set to 30hz. so maybe not playing so low will help make it last
