Hey Forum, Recent events have blown my budget for the Kickers and Alpine PDX setup I was looking at so with the sale of my current Type R's I'm hoping to get a budget system going.

I found these woofers for $239 shipped and was wondering if they are any good or if they would at least sound half decent?

http://www.elite-ele...products_id=583

I will test them out in the Kicker 12" ported enclosure I picked up and if that's rubbish I will buy some MDF and do up a nice sealed box.

Any advice on these or other budget woofers would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Website is down so can't comment on the sub as I have no idea what it is :P but if it's the TS-W309D4 then they are a pretty good sub for the money. The kicker boxs are tuned to around 40hz and are a tad boomy for me but if you like the sound then that's great :)

Site is back up! in case they go down again here's the specs for ease. I don't like boomy bass so It sounds like I will be making a nice sealed enclosure. Kicker box will be a temp until I get some more $lavings together haha.

i would take 2 polk mm1240s over those any day of the week. they sound so much nicer its not funny. even ported they have great sq and are still very loud of lower power because they have high sensitivity.

I'd go a peerless XXLS, very SQ orientated and can handle alot of power. Plus you can pick them up for <$400 :)

if you're not after boomy bass you'll hate those subs

Go for the smaller TSW309D4
http://www.elite-ele...products_id=547

It's a much better sub as far as sound quality IMO

at 219 each you cant go wrong. get 2 single 4ohm subs and run them 2ohm. perfect match with your amp assuming its the hifonics in your sig. theres also a review on here in the reviews section you should take a look at

Their DVC 4's?

So even tho the Pioneer's do 1000RMS the Polk 425RMS are better value for roughly the same price?

they have both single and dual 4ohm woofers. with your amp 2 pioneers at 1ohm is only going to see 600w rms each so it doesnt really matter if they can handle 1000w rms
2 polks at 2ohm will 450w rms each which is just about perfect for them. they will be as loud or even louder depending on the box used.

Although my own opinion is obviously subjective i have listened to both the pioneer and polk and the polk is worlds ahead in sq, its a very musical sub capable of tight punchy bass while hitting the lows with plenty of authority because of its huge xmax. bassbox also shows they work pretty well in almost any enclosure so you could probably keep that kicker box with no problem

Hmmm, I can get a Hifonics for about $350, CEA complaint,

ZRX3000.1D

1 x 3000W @ 1-Ohm, 1 x 1500W @ 2-Ohms, 1 x 750W @ 4-Ohms

.

That pretty well means I can get any subs I want, I understand this is a far cry from a quality amplifier but even at 70% efficiency on 1 ohm it will be far more then enough. It has 0.01% THD at Rated RMS Power.

just more money you have to spend though right? if you already got a brutus 1200 so why not buy something that suits it seeing as how you have a limited budget. i think youd be better off adding that 350 your willing to spend on the amp to your 500 dollar sub budget and get some very high quality subs for your money

I will be selling the Alpine SWR-1043D's, Hifonics BRZ1200.1D and enclosure. This is why I will have cash for a bigger amp which I will also require seeing as mine will be gone :-D sorry for the confusion man. I basically want some decent SQ with a lot of loudness/Chest punching BASS! I was hoping two CVX's and a Alpine PDX M12 would have done this but my budget for subs and amp is very small now that I'm moving house and going on a holiday :-( and :-).

I'm thinking $350 for an amp, and around $500 for subs and that's not ideal. This is why I will use the Kicker box for now.

personally i dont think 500 dollars is going to get you 2 'good' 500w+ rms woofers you'll be happy with.
not long ago i was looking for the exact same thing as you, after listening to heap of different subs i ended up going with 2 hertx hx300's which have amazing sq and are just stupid loud for me off only 940w rms. i tried a friends JL w3 for a few weeks which wasnt far off

Screw it!!! Ima save up haha. Stupid quality components :-P Maybe opt for some of those SWR-12D2's when they come out, 2000RMS of Alpines should SLAM! Alpine MRP M2000 should push them at 2 ohm nicely. Any suggestions for box size on a woofer that is not released yet haha?
