Hi all,

First of all thank you for all your help to me.

I have bought an alpine type R 12" 4 ohm subs and morel maximo 6.
Now, I'm confused about choosing the right amplifier. I'm on a tight budget so I'm looking to spend around $400ish for both amps.
can this amp http://www.soundmast...ifier/GMD7500M/ run my subs smoothly? or does any of have any other suggestion?
Also, is this amp http://www.ebay.com....#ht_2991wt_1163 suitable for my morel speaker?

I'm a newbie so I'm open for any suggestion. Any advise will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Alpine Type-R subs are dual voicecoil. Thus, is your sub 'dual 4ohm' (ie: 2x 4ohm voicecoils) or 'dual 2ohm' (with the VCs wired in series to create 4ohm overall)? I presume it's dual 4ohm, and thus it will have the model number SWR-1243D (as opposed to dual 2ohm SWR-1223D). Yes, this makes a big difference.

Those amplifiers would be fine, btw (presuming sub is dual 4ohm).

:)

the subs is dual 4 ohm I guess, I checked it with multimeter and they all showed 4ohm. I'm not sure about the model number cause i bought it with enclosure. The serial number is sbr s122v. Thanks for the advise shiny. Btw, Is it better to get 2 or 4 channels amp for the front speaker?
Thanks

it's a dual 4ohm. if you only plan on amplifying the front speakers then a 2ch will be fine. Depending on the speakers, I'd be choosing and amp that has >60 rms per ch, ideally the more power the better

I'd recommend a 4gauge wiring kit of decent quality (eg kicker or stinger), that will give you approx 6m of power wire, 1m or earth wire, 6m of trigger/turn on wire, approx 6m of speaker wire and 1 set of 6m RCA's (which you won't need until you upgrade your head unit) You will also need to buy a 4gauge 'T' style distribution block, that will let you run power to both amps. Both of the amplifiers you have listed have what's called "speaker level inputs" which means instead of running RCA's to the amp from an aftermarket head unit, you can use the speaker wires coming from the back of the head unit to send the signal. If your still having trouble search the forums for
More info, there's some pretty good DIY write ups on how to do this sort of stuff, good luck :)

Thanks a lot for the information Tritty. So, does that mean that I dont need to get a line converter?

All good mate :) If you get those amps, then no you won't need one, as they essentially have them built in :)

For the wiring kit, do I need to get 2 channel or 4 channel? Thanks

If you plan on amplifiying front speakers + rear speakers + subwoofer you will need the 4ch kit but you will also need to buy an extra set of RCA's (1 set of RCA's per pair of speakers) does your head unit have 3 pre outs? If not you can split the front pre outs to give you an extra output but doing this will not allow you to fade between the front and rears.

My rear speakers will be a factory speakers, so do you think it's a good idea to connect it to amplifier? or just connect it to factory HU?
If I just want to connect front speakers + subwoofer, do I need to get 4 channel?
My head unit is factory, so it doesnt have any rca pre out. What do you think I can do?

Thanks Tritty

I wouldn't recommend amplifying factory speakers. Just run them off the head unit. 4ch will be fine, sorry I forgot you had a factory deck, just run the speaker wires from the back of the head unit to the amplifier.

That's assuming the amplifier has a high level input (I didn't see if you guys mentioned specific amps or not) If it doesn't/ you want to use rca's... If I recall, rca's induce less noise than speaker wire... that sounds slightly right from memory, but yeah, my brain can't be trusted sometimes... correct away.

But yes, if you wanted to use rca's, you could get an loc (Line out convertor) which converts speaker wire into rca's essentially. so then you can essentially run any amps you need, and not have to limit yourself to high level input :D

Thanks a lot guys. Drifter, the amps have speaker line input, I think I can just connect it through speaker wire just like Tritty said. I gave the link to the amps on the top of the post.
