Sub Cone rattle

just today the cone on my Sub started rattling, It doesn't do it at high volumes, normally on about 20-22 of a possible 35, The gain is probably set slightly above a quarter of the full amount.
It sounds like the cone is hitting something causing the rattle.
i tried manually pushing the cone in and i don't get any scraping sounds etc.
Any ideas?
cheers guys

I also had an issue with a repaired Alpine SWR-1043D I repaired it my-self due to a loose surround. I did not center the voice coil correctly so now it makes a rattle every now and then at 3/4 volume. The second one I repaired is perfect tho :-) I will redo the repair one day when I get time.
There's also the possibility the sub is bottoming out tho I do not know how to repair that one.
Hope this helps, I'm sure some of the more experienced members will chime in, Their a good bunch

Could be loose dust guard, or back plate, or woofer frame, hard to say!!
Find out by running it free air then pin-point the exact culprit and then take steps to rectify the issue. Bear in mind that speaker design has not changed much since the hey days but have found those plastic magnet casings do tend to vibrate but such is not the case with rubber / magnet covers.

Well, for now the noise has stopped, if it starts up again then, i'll tear the box out and inspect, i'll check for all the things you recommended
Weird how it started it after a few months, considering i never really let the subs clip for more than a few seconds.

Do they share a common enclosure, or separate?
This will have a bearing on the answers above

i'm thinking it was just a bit of speaker wire which moved towards the cone, coz it's completely stopped now, and the sub still runs perfect.
They're wired parellel so i have a fair bit of wire in the box,
ever heard of anyone having problems like that, mate?
Cheers
