Is there any shop/person in sydney who can repair an amp?.. i just bought a JL600/1 and found out that one
of the resistor near the speaker terminal is burnt...i can do refund from the seller but i dont mind paying
for repairs in a reasonable cost...I didnt test the amp yet because it might do more damage..

heres the picture of the burnt resistor i think

Question:

Since i couldnt find the info from the Jl 600/1 manual from their website

Ill be running only 1 Subwoofer, Im just guessing that the burnt resistor is not
needed if I run a Single Sub.

My question is

Which one of the Positive and Negative terminals are pairs?

a. 1 and 4, 2 and 3
or
b. 1 and 3, 2 and 4

Thanks

There is most likely more damage than what meets the eye, possibly to other components that may look fine. I would get a refund atleast partially.

^ yeah but the sellers confirm it that it works...Bought this amp from ebay so i assumed that the seller is saying the truth...anyway i might ask a partial refund

If i can only have the schematic diagram ...i already emailed JL ....

It might work but could be at reduced output/efficiency or might not work for long..

very unlikely they will hand out a schematic to a non authorised repairer unfortunately..

must be a shortage of repaires in Sydney as I asked a similar question at the beginning of the week. I think we need to open widen it from Sydney to Australia

That's a capacitor (well i think it is, because it seems to say 'C5' next to it). It seems to be just connected in series with the other capacitor 'C6' across the output, for interference suppression OR it's part of the Class-D lowpass filtering (Class-D's by design make high frequency noise). Should not be hard or expensive to replace (cap is worth 10cents max) once you get the value of it - if C6 has a value printed on it there's a good chance C5 is the same. It would probably run fine without it, just means you are sending some high frequency (probably >20Khz) noise to the speaker. Since it's a sub, you aren't going to hear it anyway, just keep the sub's speaker cable away from any other cables so it doesn't induce high frequency noise in your other speakers.

Your guess is as good as mine as to why it failed, hopefully it was just a faulty part and not caused by another fault in the amp. I'd be asking for at least a partial refund on the basis that it failed because of abuse.

Edit: the terminals are electrically connected (the amp only has 1 output, with 2 pairs of terminals for convenience), so it doesn't matter which terminals you use as long as the sub is connected to a positive and a negative ;)

It IS a capacitor, and if it's burnt like that, then it's likely the output circuit has been damaged at some point.

It may work, but not 100% properly.

JL will never send you a circuit diagram - they don't even send them to the local distributors.

I would be inclined to test the amp carefully, or just get a refund.
