Hey guys,

After having a number of system's in previous car's of varying quality, ive been out of the audio scene for about 18months or so now.

Over the past month i have been researching for a new full system for my car. Ive listened to a number of component setups, namely the focal k2's, dynaudio sys222's, the prs's, type x's, and a few others. Ive also listened to a few amps, arc audio, audisonlx, alpine pdx.

The car is a B5 S4 with the factory bose upgrade.

Heres what ive come up with, primarily based on the Pioneer PRS stuff.

Budget is in the 4000-5000 range including install

Deck : DEH-80PRS
Front Stage : Pioneer TS-C132PRS 13cm 2way Components
Front Amp : PRS4200F 4x75RMS@4ohm, running 2way active up front
Sub Amp : PRSD1200M 1x400RMS@4ohm
Sub : 10" TSW252PRS

Install would be a custom sealed box firing into the skiport, with the amps flush mounted facing to the boot. Clean and nice, not massively showy but id like to at least be able to show people the system.
Components mounted into the factory door locations, along with the tweeters.

Couple of points. It does not have to be overly loud. Im through that stage now, and i work as an air traffic controller so i need to keep my hearing :P

Thoughts? Suggestions? Advice? Thanks in advance

I have the 80PRS head unit myself, I really like it! it has all the good features of the p99 (although only a 16 band eq) without the insane price and according to some reviews the 80prs actually sounds better than the P99 (though I know a few P99 owners that would disagree) If not better it sounds just as good and you get things like bluetooth, ipod control ect.
At first the menus are a tad confusing but once you figure them out they're a breeze :)

Have you looked at the PRS-D800 amps? 2x125rms @ 4ohm, you could run two for active front stage and 1 for the sub ( 1x300rms @4ohm) they have a very small footprint and sound amazing :) RRP is approx $449 I also have the P99 and love it but as mentioned the 80 is excellent value for money and sounds very good :)

Click my build log if you wish to see them installed :) :P

Ironically that was exactly an option presented to me by my installer.

Allthough 125wrms is a little overkill for some 5wrms tweeters i feel lol

If i buy 3 they said they will do them for $380 a pop which seems like a reasonable deal to me.

But yes thats certainly an option im considering

Hehe :P Just leave the gains on as low as possible, the other PRS amp you were looking at would give out 75rms anyway. Im running 3 in an fully active setup with 60rms tweets and havnt had a problem. What tweeters were you looking at they were rated at 5rms? That's a good price for them.

Its the PRS 5 1/4 Components which are rated at 30rms total, so i figured the tweets would be 5 or so :P.
But yeh would just come down to the tuning :P

Decisions!

hey S13viper :) are you sure you'll be able to mount the midbass drivers in the stock locations? I have a B5 A4, and the standard speakers are mounted to the door card, not the door itself, because there is no inside metal door skin on the door. The stock drivers are pretty small around 4-5 inches. I ended up buying some secondhand door trims and making my own pods on them. Originally though, I had my mid bass in small boxes in front of the seats. It will be interesting to see if the S4 has the same doors as the A4, with no interior metal to mount drivers to...

Ive seen a s4 b5 with 5 1/4" splits up fronts, it requires some fab work but nothing too serious. 6 1/2" ones require full custom door pods though.

You can always go free air and seal the boot and get a good SQ result like I did.

I am not 100% sure on the front splits you provided but usually when the question is asked what splits to get, Pioneer generally rarely rate a mention. But, having never heard them I can't really comment. Just a suggestion. I had the older TS-C130R and they were average at best.
