Marty from FHRX done my last box and he done an amazing job, ... but this time for my daily car I want to be a little more involved in the build and like to have a crack at building one myself.

So I have a pair of RE SXX 15D4's and will be running 2500 RMS @ 1ohm.

I want a box that will have that .... if you will "impress your mates" factor lol SQ is not really that imprtant, but if I can get it at the same time I wont complain.
I just want it to give you that internal chest vibration that we all love!

Now I have read alot about "frequency" that the box will be tuned at ... but dont truly understand what it means nor what I should aim for ...

RE recomends 34hz 4.0+ PD? Not sure what the PD means ... does it just mean 4.0+ cubic feet in a different term? Sorry guys im new at this lol

Its going in a Hummer and I have a massive amount of room for the box. I added a pic of the trunk area with dimensions.

If possible id like to fire the subs up, and have either one central port and 1 port on each end (not 1 port on one side) i want the box to look even.

I dont really want to come above the top of the rear seat if possible but I will if I have too.

Id like to mount the amp on the back of the box if possible ... (back side meaning when ya open the rear cargo door you can see amp.) I may try and build the amp so its under clear perspex like a window to see the amp. So the box will have to be shortened up a few inches I guess if I wanted to do this ...

Any ideas, help or design pictures would be wonderful, I hope my photoshop skills are ok for you guys to understand the dimensions .... only one I couldnt really draw an arrow for was for the distance between the top of the rear seat to the back door when it closes, so I just put that in text.

I also added one to many arrows in the pic, an extra one that wasnt needed as its 1050mm same as the bottom of the cargo area lol

hmm, I could have takien the yellow defect sticker off the front windshield for the pic lol the cops dont like my 28" rims ... meanwhile a Honda civic drives past while im being defected with a door hanging off with rust, 4 different rims, and no exhaust flange gasket .... but "my" car is un road worthy ... amazing right? lol

*edit*

I actually just found this pic ... and to be quite honest this is almost exactly what I was after .... except I wanted subs facing up ... but after seeing this ... I might face them back toward the rear door ... damn what do you guys think I should do? Would one make more bass then the other? and see how the box flares out at the top following the side of the interior ... i really like that .... but it may be over my head .... hmm

best advice i can give is to plan your build an build your plan.

It's real easy to get distracted an lose sight of what you want, I know i have done it a few times.

as for the side panels, thats why we make lots of cardboard templates ;)

If you want a hand mate, feel free to drop me a line, happy to help if you need a hand.

It might help to build something in Sketchup both to see where there might be problems and also to check angles, join problems. I know that it's hepled me out a few times in a variety of building situations.

Cant offer a lot of assistance with designing a box as I'm a bit of a noob myself, however it would make sense to start doing some calculations based on your known dimensions and changing just the depth to arrive at a final volume.

Don't be discourage by the lack of response to your questions - there's a huge amount of knowledge on these forums and many people that will go out of their way to help you out.

That said, Im happy to lend a hand where I can. :)

Hi Mononlock, actually it's good timing, il be buying the MDF this weekend.

I think I need 8 cubic feet for the twin SXX 15's and to make it a little easier I might try and build a normal wedge style box with the only angle being the on that follows the back seat.

Then I was thinking I can add to the box to make the cosmetic angles and amp under Perspex with a fan or 2 to keep air flowing through the chamber the amp is mounted in.

I will definatly have port questions, shapes, sizes, placement and such, but let me sketch up a quick box first and see your thoughts and suggestions you may have.

Thanx for the reply

Dont be afraid of the angles mate, theres a fair bit of volume that can be put to use there, be it for amps, batt's, distro's or more box volume.

Don't know how much experience you've had but here are a few idea's re building the enclosure;

You could use the wedge area for an amp mount, maybe a bit of 6mm Acrylic to show them off...

basic breakdown of volumes - divide the space into easly to figue spaces and then add them together

Just 2c's worth.

I'm heading down to Nowra next weekend to help out Perin_07 with his system, you can join us and we can pool our knowledge and experience to figure stuff out if you like.

Either way, keen to see your ideas and I'll be happy to help out however I can.
