hey guys almost ready to custom make the pods for my front stage and confused where to put the tweeters...

im in two minds here

1) incorporate the tweeters into the door speaker pods (scared this will make them too dull)

2) fibreglass them into my a pillar trims (scared this will make them too bright)

i know its easy to say connect them all up and see how it sounds and go from there but i wont be able to right now and im just going to go with the position i decide for now...

im thinking if i put them in the apillar trims then face them towards each other instead of firing at the seats hoping it will cancel out some of that real bright spots...

the setup will be tuned at pac and ill be using time correction to try get the sound centralised ... for this point im going towards them in the pillars facing each other...

what do you guys think ?

my mids are Peerless Exclusive 6.5" Midwoofers (830883) run active
and tweets are Boston Acoustics Neo-M tweeters run passive (still contemplating whether to use these or wasting my time and just get something like vifa etc)

What's stopping you from hooking them up and trying some different positions? I don't think there's a lot of point doing a custom installation without listening to the positioning first, the main benefit you are gaining by custom installation is in the positioning. Why not put them in the factory positions?

I wouldn't attempt custom A pillar's without listening to many different tweeter positions first :)

yeah nothing connected atm and i havnt made my speaker pods yet so i wanted to get a fair idea before i do so i can either incorporate them into the door pods or not.. if i had the pods made up already, then yeah i could easily just bluetack the tweets in different places and see what sounds best... but if i do make the pods and i choose to incorporate then into the pods then i cant ill have to make new pods again...

I can't tell you what to do, but if I were in your situation first thing I'd do is ditch the tweeters for some Scanspeak or SB Acoustics jobbies.

The HDS Exclusives are world class midwoofers, and those tweeters just won't do them justice IMHO.

Good tweeters will not be too bright, or too dull, if they are mounted according to their requirements and yours.

I can't comment on the particular model you have, but generally for tweeters "bigger is better"

And like mine theres also too big, makes custom a pillars almost a no go, I mean I made them but at the end of the day it did loose alot of room for them.

Don't get me wrong I love the sound of them but unfortunately I loose a bit of width and depth for them.

you know i have actually thought hard about just going and getting a set of sb29rdnc's ive seen them talked about heaps on this forum.. they are pretty cheap too (http://av.darcher.co...&product_id=155)

my only problem was/is space, and i was trying to keep everything as subtle as possible and not having some massive tweeters sticking out of the a pillars out of no where...

i am still considering it though... can you reccomend anywhere else to install them in ?

this is a quick pic of the cars interior in question (gauges not there)

Hmm. You don't look to have a lot of A-pillar realestate there but the bottom corner of the pillar looks decently far forward.

Top of the door looks to have a factory location but that might not be far enough forward for your liking.

Certainly looks like a case of hooking some up and trying locations to me.

I'm having a problem with speaker size myslef - though with a midrange. :) On the pillar might not be "subtle".

yeah there pretty skinny/small a-pillar trims and a big tweeter is going to stick out like dog balls :(

having them in the far bottom corner (being furthest away from me) does this give the system a better quality of depth ... i used to have them on the doors and i couldnt stand them there too much in your face and bright...

is having them down low next to the mid woofer in the door a big no no ? should i completly rule that out ? looking at all the sq setups most of the installs have their tweeters on the a-pillar area...

People have mounted tweeters in the kicks before. It'll sacrifice stage height but there are advantages too - less issues with reflections off glass, better time alignment.

It all comes down to personal preference really - if it sounds good to you, then do it.

this is going to get tricky , i think i might complete the system first finished my door pods install the speakers and then move around the tweeters .... i guess ill just go from there and if i decide to then install them into the door speaker pods ill just have to hack into them :( and re-do them...
