Eclipse CAASQ - Western Australia - 2005 and Beyond
First of all, this is an open letter to all who have approached me privately with feedback regarding the recent trial event held in Western Australia.
At this point I would like to express my thanks on behalf of Car Audio Australia and CAASQ to Alberts Car Stereo - Myaree for their support, and initiative in making sound quality competition a possibility once more in Western Australia. Without these guys, CAASQ may never have found its way to WA. We should all take our hats off to them for that.
Secondly, I would like to point out that the only training the judges for the recent event have received was via telephone conversations. This was taking a gamble that it could pay off, but in hindsight, with WA never having seen the CAASQ format, it was probably a big ask. Bruce Johnson was overseeing the event, and with his extensive experience should have proven very handy for the great running of this event. Unfortunately as the turnout was greater than expected, Bruce was caught up with the 'dark side', SPL.
Which left only Albert's head judge and another judge who was brought in based on a recommendation. The Street class judging was very good, and great feedback has been received by those competitors. However, the lack of experience in the CAASQ format brought the event a little unstuck in the Show category.
The judge was unaware the System Accuracy section was judged by a physical judge, and thought an RTA was used for this process. The sections were analysed but not recorded, and this only became known at the end of the day. A very simple mistake/oversight but with very drastic results in the overall scores.
The upshot of all this, is we are not going to give up on CAASQ in Western Australia, as we strongly believe that Western Australia really does have some of the best vehicles for Sound Quality in Australia. We'd love for a series to take place in WA, and these cars to qualify and compete against Australia's best at the National Finals event.
We're now looking towards setting a date for an event again at Alberts Car Stereo in Myaree, before the National Finals in December. However, this time, both myself and Bruce Emblin will attend as Head Judges, and train some further judges in Western Australia whilst in attendance. Bruce Johnson and also Chris G. will also be judges at this event.
Pro Class will also run, providing there are at least 3 entries (this applies to both Pro Street, and Pro Show). Entry for the event will be pre-entry and payment only as we have to justify the costs of this event. For the better part, this event will be funded out of my own personal pocket. So we hope you will support the event, and the future of CAASQ in Western Australia by attending and getting your entry in as soon as possible.
More details will be posted up as they are known.
